Again it seems to be an escape from the inevitable. But somehow I actually think it's way more than that.

Why do I think that? I'm sure you are wondering what special thing happened at the end of my last entry in the first world trip ...
Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany silberregenIt was sooooo cold in Frankfurt, we didn't want to spend much time here since we had no winter clothing. WE got in late, went to our hotel, then back to the airport to get our flight to Bangkok moved up. We though it would be at 8 that night, but they managed to get us on the next flight out, which was pretty much within the hour. Woohooo! I also kept speaking Italian in Germany... so confused with all the languages.
Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany sofenjon... Duty Free shop I was not prepared for this: did you know that you must show your passport and boarding pass to purchase in these shops? What is the purpose of this? And I was confused how to pay because the registers all say "Cash Payment". I did not have Euros and only a few hundred Indian Rupees (worth about $3) ; I assumed they would not want my practically worthless USD. I waited in line (my first of many lines to come) and the ...
Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany dsauter... their walls, not to mention some German candies.

Unfortunately it was time to call it a trip, so we all piled in the car and Flo kindly drove us home on the ultra-efficient Autobahn where nobody drives slowly in the left lane.

Auf wiedersehen! It was a great trip!

Pam and Glenn said:

Pam’s first observation of her old high school alma mater town of Frankfurt was that it had not changed much. From the Bahnhoff down ...
Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany the_stamms... unwind, & reflect for a couple of days before flying back to Canada. However, it was strange because we kept saying we hadn't really taken much time in the 4 months just to relax and here we were in Mainz set-up to do just that and we were restless with the urge to hop another train and see what's around the corner - strange beings we are!
Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany travelmenu... sit down for a snack. By the way, calling your bank and credit card companies is probably required by most. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but it sure can save you a lot of headaches when you travel in Europe. You need to tell them when and where you are traveling so they approve charges. A friend didn't do this one time, experienced quite a bit of frustration getting things resolved. However, once the bank knew there was no problem. Anyway, we decide to mosey down to ...
Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany lafalot... Salzburg: Toured the Munster Cathedral and Fortress, took in awesome views, and listened to a quintet sing The Little Drummer Boy in German. Nurnberg: Walking tour of the old city and fortress and ate the best brats in Bavaria! Bamberg: Toured the old city, cathedral and residence of archbishops, and had the most delicious lunch at the Klosterhaus washed down with a local brew. Speyer: Searched for the local dish of saumagan (pig stomach stuffed with meat and ...
Mainz, Germany chris_saywardHello all! I left for Germany on June 10, and I'll try and sum up the last two weeks as best I can. Feel free to stop reading at any time-this will probably be boring and scattered, but I thought you might want to know what I've been up to. I'm living in Mainz, Germany. Which, by train and bus, is about an hour southwest of Frankfurt. About 40 college students from across the country are in Germany this summer thanks to the USA-Interns program. On the first Monday I ...
Mainz, Germany nickmcgurk... Not only did Speyer have the huge cathedral, it had two other churches we visited. Not as large, but very ornate and one even older! We left and traveled on to Worms. I wonder where it ever got that name, for it has another fantastic cathedral. It, along with Speyer and Mainz are the most famous in this region, and a lot of Germany. We found our way without a hitch. There was a crypt in this one too. I am not sure I understand this crypt ...
