... arrives, probably in an hour or two.

Now I'm feeling a little remote. I'm pretty good at making the best of a situation, and dealing with the resources I have. As I haven't eaten yet today, I search a few of the nearby gardens for a bit of fruit to tide me over. Under the cover of early morning light I find a mature pomegranate tree loaded with fruit. I grab 5 of the plumpest fruits I can find and wander ...
Faro, Faro, Portugal jmckerricher... it was pretty tame until one of the toreadors almost got trampled by one of the bulls, the dude was lucky they dulled the tip of the bulls horns.

http://picasaweb.google.com /Jonny.D.Lawrence/20091016Albufeira?aut hkey=Gv1sRgCImA4oCXitDO5AE&feat=dir ectlink
Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal sofenjon... not "surfers" but we we’re much less scared of getting tossed by the big waves this time. We also came to the conclusion that it maybe wasn’t us that, but that it’s the size of the board that was hindering our performance....

http://picasaweb.google.com/Jonny.D .Lawrence/20091011Sagres?authkey=Gv1sRg CMmMtI7egbGKvAE&feat=directlink
Portimão, Algarve, Portugal sofenjon... shuttle bus to catch to Gatwick North terminal as the bus number and stop number printed on the ticket was completely different again to reality. Luckily, there were Network Express (bus company) on hand to save the day, but even then they didn't seem to know what was occuring and seemed to make things up as they went along anyway. We made the BA flight from Gatwick with plenty of time to spare so that's the main thing.

Another thing, I will also never again ...
Faro, Algarve, Portugal pat_n_mel... to make the (rather optimistic) 1km from the station seem like 5km. Finally we reached the end of a dusty road were our 4 star, 2 pool, 2 bar, 55 Euro bargain sat in all its air-conditioned glory. Whilst not exactly oozing charm, it was certainly good value. We're only here for the sea sand and Sagres afterall.

Tavira, a resort town, with a certain charm, a hint of Spanish chav and a short boat ride to the beach to dissuade the properly ...
Tavira, Algarve, Portugal warm... discovering a gem of a local restuarant with amazing bbq chicken. 6 euro for dinner!!

The next day to fill in time before departing we looked at the Chapel of Bones, which was built from the bones of the monks from the local cemetary. Over 1200 skulls. Definite goosebumps eh!

Albufeira, Algarve, Portugal dovi... this alley way/street thing. Right. Well I ask one of the chicks if this is safe and she assures me no problem. Okay, I start walking. It's a wee bit creepy I have to say. I than see civilization and start walking toward that. I find this bar that seems a bit mom and pop and ask for directions. I am on the correct street. Sweet. I than track down the address and the building looks nothing like a hostel. I double back to the bar and ...
Faro, Portugal kasia-waw... that just screamed "welcome to your local juvenile correctional facility". For those curious about Matt Groening's inspiration for Lunchlady Doris, we met her, she worked at our hostel serving a cold breakfast with a leathery smile and a hacking cough. The resemblance was uncanny, and if she regularly laughed to no one in particular for no apparent reason it can only be because she was daydreaming of the royalty cheques that should come when she sues FOX ...
Faro, Portugal claude_and_iain... all this time, holding the rain water they collect until it evaporates. After a great ride along the bank of the whatever it is (river, estuary, delta etc) we crossed it using the environmentally sensitive footbridge. A vast, fluffy sand beach was to be found over low dunes and that was impressive after months of pebbly beaches across the Med - even if the ...
