Finally in Edinburgh

After eating half our bag of candy and feeling like my teeth were going to rot out of my mouth, we finally arrived in Edinburgh at about 4:30pm. We located our hotel fairly easily as it was marked on my super handy and fun Edinburgh popout map, which I also bought in Moffat. When everyone saw my popout map, a few of them went and bought their own. That's how cool it is. We checked into the Ibis while Lori and Ashley dumped their bags in our room and went to find a hostel. Chris and Sarah went...

Stirling and Loch Lomond tour

Today the group sans Andria and Lee went on a coach tour to Stirling and Loch Lomond with Scottish Tours. It was ok but would have been a lot better without all the rain and mist. So far our luck with weather in Scotland had been amazing but today was an exception. Our first stop on the tour was in Queensferry to see the River Forth bridges. The sky was fairly clear at that time so we had a good view and took a few photos. From there we went to Stirling. The mist in Stirling was so thick that...

A day in St. Andrews

We did another coach tour today but this one was great. First of all, I had reserved the coach just for our group of 13 (Andria and Lee go home today, and Chris and Sarah were doing their own thing, but everyone else was in), so it was going to be fun no matter what. But, as an added bonus, we had the best tour guide ever, named Peter. Peter knew everything there was to know about Scotland and told us all sorts of stuff as we drove along in the bus. We would ask him these completely random qu...

Sightseeing around Edinburgh

This morning we decided to go see the Edinburgh Dungeons. We got there about 15 minutes before opening so we decided to walk a little further down the North Bridge and check out the Scott Monument. We decided not to climb the Scott Monument since it was raining at the time and we wanted to be inside the dungeons. So we headed back to the dungeons and joined a tour. As soon as you enter, they take a group photo. Our is awesome. Ally, Ashley, and myself had our heads in the gallows. Carl and Co...

Last day in Scotland

Since everyone was hungover this morning, very few were actually in the lobby when Cody and I got up. We decided to go to the castle, which is what everyone else who wasn't shopping yesterday was doing. Ally was still in bed so we asked Erik if he wanted to come with us. Erik, Ally, and I had all seen the castle four years ago when we were in Edinburgh, but they have added a lot of exhibits and it was even better than last time. I was hesitant to pay the steep entrance fee but it turned out t...

Great location

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at the Edinburgh Ibis in September 2004 and found it to be of high standard for a very reasonable price and in an AMAZING location right on the royal mile. Highly recommended.

Good location!

from bethannsd
This hotel is very convenient, easy walk to the Royal Mile. Rooms were OK....smelled smoky, but this is Europe and all hotels smell that way. I would go back again just for the awesome location and good price. Service was good, no frills, not luxury, but a very good value for the money. We were there for Hogmany (forgive the spelling) and it was so much fun!!

Great location

This is a perfect location for a short break in Edinburgh...just moments from the Royal Mile. Reasonably priced secure parking is available close by. Although we had a good size room, the standard of cleaning was poor and on one day the room was not cleaned at all. If they can sort out the housekeeping problems this would be rated 5!.

Thank God for the Ibis

I was so happy to find the Ibis on short notice, after checking out of the awful Kingsview guesthouse on Gilmore street. The Ibis did not charge us an insane rate which was especially surprising considering we did not have reservations and just walked in to pay the rack rate. The hotel rooms are small but the location more than makes up for it. You are right on the royal mile which is the best place to be in Edinburgh. The Ibis is very clean with nice size closets and also a roomy bathroom, suprising for Europe. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for clean, comfortable, friendly hotel chain.

Excellent value for money, and the location is unbeatable (a few minutes walk to the Castle, just off the Royal Mile).

The staff are friendly and efficient, and the rooms - although quite basic - very light and well designed.

Because of where the hotel is, it can be a little noisy, but we didn't find that a problem.

Great location! great value for money!

The hotel was in an amazing location! You really couldnt ask for a better situation! We walked everywhere and didnt get a cab or bus once [except for the airport]. The people there went out of their way to please us- they were friendly and made the stay pleasant [thanks Andrea!] the room is small, but for that price it is amazing! It was perfect for what we needed! I would recommend this to everyone!

Great Location but let down by a few basics

from A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel didn't do themselves any favours. We made tea on the first day we were there, which wasn't replaced. The second night we to drinks to the room but the glasses weren't removed by the maid the next day and the coffee mugs weren't cleaned either. As we were about to leave we found a sock under the bed from some previous resident! I know these are just little things but should be sorted as a matter of course in anywhere you pay to stay. Could do better! However, the location was great. It is with in walking distance of all the major attractions and for the price I would stay there again. For location I'd give this hotel 5/5 but for service etc would give it 3/5

It could be worse...

Location, location, location. Hotel Ibis is situated on the main tourist center of the city. Just a couple of walk and you're already on the Royal Mile which is really great.

Problem -- during our visit, a baby peed on the carpet right infront of the elevator. Nobody cleaned it so it smelled all day long. The bathroom floor was not clean. I was in and out of the hotel the whole day and also until the early morning. No one was checking if I actually stay there or not. They just let me in.

You Can't Go Wrong!

My daughter and I recently spent three nights at the Ibis in Edinburgh. We had chosen it from the other review on this site and were not dissapointed. The location was so awsome! Right in the middle of the Royal Mile! The staff went out of their way to change our room when I had not reserved a non smoking room. The price was really good. The only draw backs, the breakfast was not included and a bit pricey.. but there is a "Chocolate Soup" next door where they have a light breakfast for far less than the hotel offered. Also, there was a bit of a mix up in the room exchange, and I lost a night gown that, hard as they tried, the staff could not locate, I guess the maid has a beautiful barely used pink nightie! But all in all, I would stay there again for the money, you can't go wrong!

WONDERFUL Shower

from A TripAdvisor Member
Ibis was very conveniently located and wonderfully

close to the middle of the Royal Mile. We read about it in a Rick Steves book and decided to try it.

His books are great,by the way. Clean room and a shower that was Great (although small). Room

overlooked Hunter Square and was Terrific .

Prices were very good also. Staff was great and even got us some ICE!!(We almost had to arm-

wrestle the Hotel in Birmingham for ice). Absolute

best deal for the money . We did all our own trip

planning and were by ourselves . Not nearly as bad as I had thought it would be. Wife Alyse and I loved the Ibis (And she is hard to please.)
