After lunch we drove into the countryside along the Circuit of Remembrance and stopped at Pozieres, which is an Australian Memorial and Cemetery. The Queen of Belgium was there, the area around the fate was closed to the general public but a big screen was set up in the main square and we watched from there. ... to La Maison du Champlain! (Interesting that there are blokes walking around the Lille railway station with machine guns.) This is really a grand private townhouse that has converted 2 rooms for accommodation. It is gorgeous! The bathroom, which includes a desk and coffee machine, is as big as the bedroom. Set off this morning to Villers Bretoneaux to see the Australian War Memorial from World War 1. Raining all the way. Arrived and found the road closed but of course that did not deter Mr Evennett. ... watch TV or just hang out. Amsterdam proved to be an excellent place for some retail therapy. I bought some lovely red suede ankle boots (yes Stu, more shoes) and a leather jacket. Both were complete bargains. There were heaps of sales on so plenty of shops to visit. I don't think I've ever seen so many shoe shops. Shoe lovers heaven. PS.
