At Cotonou we were told a story by two travellers going a similar route to us. Sobert and Rarah were, unusually, their names. Here is there account of nefarious adventure related as accurately as I can:

... to get back to Cotonou the next day for a bus home so we spent my last evening getting drunk on the beach and swimming in the pool again.
Not much to say about the last day of travelling other than it took 11 hours to get home and I was by myself squashed next to a guy who stunk of poo and wouldn't stop singing the whole way home. I did meet a nice *****ian guy however who helped we crossing the borders for Togo and Ghana!

... altare där man offrade och utövade voodoo. I byn var dem i full färd med att förbereda inför eftermiddagens voodoofest med dans, mat och musik. Några av oss besökte senare detta, men de flesta, inklusive undertecknad avstod, då jag inte var så imponerad av förmiddagens aktivitet och dessutom kände av sviterna av de senaste dagarnas sjuklighet. Dansen var tydligen helt ok men saknade helt inslag av masker (som i Dogon) så för en maskbiten person ...
