Historical Traveler Reviews Ibis Amsterdam City Stopera
Cool, clean & central hotel
We stayed last week for 3 nights at the Ibis Stopera. Got a very cool deal over the net, 80€ instead of the regular 130€/night, which is quite OK if you take a look at the overpriced hotels in Amsterdam and their very often terrible quality of the lodging. (OK, you might arrive in the night completelly stoned and out of your mind, but still you simply love to lie down in a clean bed, right?).
Anyway, very functional, clean and central hotel. We got two double-rooms, one overlooking the canal, one the inner yard, both with a very cool bath reminiscent of a ship. I mean, don't expect Titanic there or something, but still very comfortable, huge showers (which are way cool if you know what I mean).
Good value hotel
We were pleased to find that this hotel was within easy walking distance of all the main sights and chose to walk rather than use the public transport most of the time. The only thing we were disappointed with was the lack of tea/coffee making facilities which we though was standard in all hotels these days. The room was clean and had everything we really needed although a fridge would have been a bonus. The shower was great with nice fluffy towels (they could have been bigger though). We opted out of paying the additional charge for breakfast and found a cafe 2 minutes walk to the left of the hotel (towards central station) where breakfast was half the price of the hotel offer. Well worth a visit. We would certainly stay there again.
A pleasant suprise with this hotel.
Have just returned from a visit from Amtesterdam and this was our chosen hotel. On arrival the room wasn't ready so we took the opportunity to have a walk out. On our return, the staff at reception knew who we were without asking, even though it was a different person from original check-in. We were allocated a room in ther rear of the building- this wasn't what we expected. We got a room with a great view of the canal, much better than the traffic at the front!. The biggest shower room I have ever seen and it was clean to!. The buffet breakfast was to die for.More than just croissants and jam, there was all kinds of bread, coooked items, cereal and fruit!! Well worth a visit or re-visit.
I decided to stay at the Ibis Stopera because it was the most reasonable hotel rate I found on the Net. The hotel is in a good location: 10 minute walk to the Rembrantsplein bars, restaurants and "coffeeshops"and near trams. Nearby there is a bike rental and a marketplace where you can buy jewelry, clothes and other souvenirs. The hotel is clean, quiet and the rooms are of an adequate size.
Lovely hotel, would use again and again.
I don't know why some people have not given this hotel a better review. My Partner and I stayed there last week and it was great. The rooms are not huge but are big enough, in fact, pretty standard size I would say....unless you are used to 5* suites lol.....the bathroom was lovely with a huge shower, easily big enough for two people. Breakfasts were buffet style and there was a good choice.
It is only a 5-10 minute walk from the central station and red light district. Five minutes from the Artis zoo and everywhere else was within walking distance as the city centre is pretty compact I would stay here again with no hesitation. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Found this for about 70 Euros last August, was happy with it (bless the air-conditioning). Room was clean and about twice the size of the 2 star Parisian hotel I had arrived from. Location isn't as close to the heart of town (Dam square, etc.) as most Amsterdam city hotels, but the city is so compact that it doesn't really matter. Was just a short walk away from Rembrandtplein, and a short walk past that to Leidseplein...and trams/buses are so well-run that you can easily circle to red-light district etc. Staff at front desk weren't friendly, rather businesslike. They were able to provide everything asked for in an efficient manner. Everything was as advertised, which is more than I can say for many places. I wouldn't pay rack rate for these rooms (I think that was about 120 Euros), but if you get a deal online, it can be a great value.
Great tidy hotel in good location
After looking through lots of hotels online I decided to book a triple room at the Ibis for 3 nights. The price was good about £30 pp pn and the hotel was easy to find via tram 9 from the train station. Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff and directed to our room, which turned out to be a twin room with an extra bed that folds out from the wall, the room was quite small but what was expected for the price. The en-suite was great and had the biggest shower I've ever seen! The beds were fairly stiff but no more so than any other European hotel. No problems at check out either, the price was as quoted on the bookingsnl website. I'd definitely recommend the Stopera to anyone looking for a cheap, tidy and clean hotel that's within walking distance of all the sites.
A group of six guys decided to spend a Friday night in Amsterdam. Chose the Ibis chain because they are normally clean and at a good price. The problems started at check-in. As my group walked into the hotel their were four persons working the check-in desk. As we approached the desk, three other groups were behind us wanting to check in also. In a flash, the desk was suddenly only manned by one very slow woman. Where the other three clerks went, I don't know. What made her so slow you ask? She decided to take a personal phone call in the middle of checking in our group, while three other groups were waiting. Not a minute long call either.....5 full minutes discussing her plans for that evening with her girlfriend while we all stared at one another. Then to make matters worse she informs us the the rooms we had reserved weren't ready. Fast forward to 9:45 a.m. the next morning (check out time is noon). An incredibly loud knock on the door announces "HOUSEKEEPING". My response "We're staying until noon". 10:15 a.m....another loud knock..."HOUSEKEEPING". Seems as this hotel had no idea how to check us in, but had every idea how to get us out. I won't be staying there again.
Be careful or you can be robbed!
I've been charged 78,20 euros too much in my debit card acount. I've telefoned and e-mailed them and they simply don't care.
Ibis I was there
Very cheap over the internet, fair room, good size, bar OK, small walk to centre, basically I thought it said exactly what it did on the packet. Extra TV channel free that I would not recommend to those with kids, would go back.
