... which draws water from 27m from the lake for the local drinking water, as well as numerous villages surrounding the lake. Little harbours were dotted with speed boats, with the sail club on the west coast. The eastern side was dominated by wonderful chateaus of the rich of France, along with a chateau or two all surrounded by mountains and forests. The important reeds, breading grounds for fish and bird life, were located on the ...

We are slowly wandering South. The aires in Savoie are not wonderful. Some are just scraps of land where the commune has put a Borne for which you have to buy tokens or taped off the electric points. We left Challes and drove just 30 km to La Cheylas. Reasonable aire, but noisy. Trains about half a mile away across a field and right next to a busy road. We only stayed for a night. Now we are at a campsite right on a lake. To get to it, we have come through ...

In discussion with others, it is clear that you are always “guided” to the toll motorways, we proposed to test this out today on a leg where there was a good alternative N road with scenic properties.
Tom Tom was set to use toll roads and we would do the alternative navigation as required. All went well until the N1083 which we were manually following just disappeared at the roundabout and even more amazingly, we suddenly found ourselves at the toll plaza.
    As you ...
