Back on the bikes! 60km from Allemont up to a little town called Villard Reymond. The village way tiny. On the way we had to ride through 3 pitch black tunnels the longest which was 370m. There was one little old French lady with a cafe overlooking the mountains, so we stopped for some apricot tart and raspberry mousse. She was the loveliest lady! Back ...

    Rest day at Allemont

A travel blog entry by eyork on Jul 29, 2015

We left our beloved botchy field, filled up with petrol and drove around the corner to Allemont. We hunted again for gas, or some way to make it work, but no luck. Again. Not very happy! Not only with the gas, but also troubles with the fridge and 12V powerpoints. Baguette for lunch, set up the van with electricity and went for a walk. Cold and rainy this afternoon, but still able to wander through the town of Allemont. A nice quiet rest day ...

We headed towards the Col du Golibier but unfortunately the road was closed as its too dangerous to drive/ride. We headed up to the Col du Sarenna instead, which is the other side of the mountain to the Alpe d'huez. It was incredible! The summit was unreal. We were almost in the snow!! We stopped for a banana and a rest, the continued on. We stopped at the summit of the Alpe d'huez for a coffee and shared a pizza. We sat outside in the sunshine - we ...

... that was playing the race. It was great seeing the action on TV and hearing the crowd getting more excited. The Frenchies were especially happy since a French cyclist, Thibaut Pinot, won the stage. It was an amazing day. I can't believe I had the opportunity to watch a stage on Alpe du Huez let alone ride up it!

At the end of the race we hurried up to get our stuff and begin the long decent. Since there were so many people and cyclist we had to keep a ...
