Hotel Ibis in my travel experience in Europe is that they are reliable, predictable and clean. the rooms are small but clean. For a quick stay during travel is worth it. they have breakfast in the morning which saves a lot of time

... but with no view which didn't worry the boys at all.

We were then taken up in an ancient lift to the sixth floor where we were allotted a tiny, tiny room that was fairly old fashioned. However we had an equally tiny balcony but it had the most spectacular view of the River Reuss, the Chapel Bridge, the old town and snow covered Mt. Pilatus in the background. It was spectacular. I can have a nice room ...

... not much planned for the day, Hans and I were dropped off for a walk along the Royce River to Bremgarten. After crossing a bridge I was intrigued by a concrete platform with steel rings set into it, matched by another on the opposite bank - turns out these are built to take an emergency bridge, presumably in the case of a flood destroying the other. Along the river we passed a bird sanctuary for migratory birds, then crossed the river near an pretty and old, ...

... than over the mountains. Our hotel in Lucerne faced the lake of the same name and our third floor room had a balcony that we made good use of during our stay. Day 1 was a free day so we caught the bus into town and found a laundry. We left our washing there and wandered the streets and river. We crossed the chapel bridge and admired the old town. Near the river stopped for a coffee and caught up with some Aussies (Richard and Shirley from the Sunshine Coast) who were staying at ...

This morning we woke up and outside the window there was a huge medieval castle with a large football field in front of it. Calum and I played football and took some pictures. Then we set off for a three hour journey again. On the drive, Calum and I played on the ipad for a while. I kept on asking, "How much longer until we get to Dad's hotel in Lake Maggiore?" We finally arrived (early) at Dad's workplace and Calum and I played with Lego for a while, waiting for him. Then ...

... the whole way up. No problems! At the top is a huge restaurant and outdoor viewing deck. There is still a bit of snow on the ground. Ok so I walked over to Sue, who is also keeping a detailed diary, and looked out at the 360 degree vista. I said that i was running out of superlatives to describe some of tthe things I have seen, she agreed. So we swapped a few back and forth and I felt this was the only word to describe what I was looking at, MAJICAL. It is like sitting on the top of ...
