... in camouflage carrying sub machine guns walking past in threes. The contrast was a bit surreal. We walked to the Luxembourg Gardens - really beautiful. I'm struck by how Parisians live in these tiny apartments but most of their real living actually takes place on the street fronts, in cafes and restaurants and in parks and gardens. ... and we began a day of sights and sounds that can only be found in Paris. Our first stop was at Notre Dame! What a glorious cathedral this is. Around every corner are superb sculptures, paintings and magnificent stained glass windows. Construction of this building started in 1163! Apart from the fact that we were able to sit in the pews, there was actually a service being held at the time - in French of course, and so we sat and quietly ...

... the train ride, saw a lot of farming & wine growing areas. Had nice walk & lunch at Dijon, a very old & pretty town. Then back on bus for trip to meet the boat. We have already made some friends from Canada, Perth & Britain. Lorne & Anne from Canada are lovely, Lorne has a wicked sense of humour like Vern......not sure what we will be in for with the trip. I am going along okay, tired & struggling with sore knee today which I will need to be careful of. ...
