      ... out in 1569, they destroyed the fifth and main bastion as a parting shot! Once again, a Sultan came and rebuilt the place and called it El Jadida which means The New One in Arabic. So there is nothing Moorish about this fort; it is in fact a Portugese looking fort....just massive blocks of hewn stone!

      Peter had insisted that fuel was cheaper in Morocco than in Gibraltar, and had not topped up his tank so now needed to refuel before going too much further. I was not happy about entering a small harbor in the foggy conditions so stayed outside the entrance some 5 miles off. The AIS system saved us more than once from running into passing boats, such a great device. Peter entered the marina almost blind using his chart plotter to guide him but in the fog ...

      ... once again and fit in another UNESCO world heritage site before heading home. In addition, I thought visiting the coast one more time wouldn't be a bad idea, maybe allowing me the opportunity to enjoy some more fresh seafood. Finally, El Jadida would put me just a short train ride from Casablanca for me to catch my flight out on the 22nd. So everything seemed to line up for El Jadida to be a good finale for my trip.

      ... I say that for the most part they are kind and generous. I do tend to hesitate a moment before saying that and sometimes they interrupt me to comment on how difficult it is for tourists to travel in their country. They lament about the fact that those types of people are ruining the experience and tarnishing their country's reputation.
