... from our last hotel breakfast in Wellington where several people came to breakfast in bare feet or just socks and clothes they MIGHT have slept in!!! notes: On the tram to the race today, we got diverted through the Middle park neighborhood which I wish I could have gotten pictures of...the houses were very New Orleans like....one story, long, narrow and close to each other or attached. Lots of intricate wrought iron work on all the houses...very charming and ...

100th day travelling

... in the form of me. Spent the day hopping from suburban garden to garden doing basic gardening **** which seems to be a lucrative little business, all his clients are doing pretty well for themselves! In the meantime, kurt and Vince returned to the charity door to door fundraising job, getting lost on the way still in a drunken stupor from the night before and arriving 45 minutes late. Despite this, ...

... the lights did not work the first time... seems like a bit of a waste. Anyways, the game was good. Australia won. I am fairly sure that in the first half, Lach was regretting bringing me because I asked so many questions. Then I commented that the players got water brought to them every time they caught the ball, and even the people behind laughed. Anyways, I survived the 3 hours and actually enjoyed it.

The next field trip ...

Queen Victoria Market

... Australia and start their own country to continue mining. This was the cause of the battle, but the battle was short lived. When the first large piece of gold was found, the finder yelled "Eureka!" and this is why there is a large building with a big gold panel and and red piece called Eureka. The gold represents the gold mine era and the red is in memory of the battle.

We took our walk through some of the arcades and lane ways that Jason and I have explored previously ...

A Victorian Christmas week with a difference

... gravy - the lot. Well except the Yorkies that the oven ruined... Lots of wine was drunk, a lot of conversation was had about different Xmas traditions too (both nationality wise and family wise). That was really interesting, to hear all the different things. Xmas is predominantly celebrated in Germany on the evening of 24th by the way, and then the 25th & 26th are national holidays. The hot tub was then uncovered, and we all got in. I'm sure it was only meant for 4 at a ...

This was very much as we expected. A decent sized room but basic. There was however air-conditioning which was a bonus as Melbourne was very hot when we were there (early Nov). The hotel was in a great location, handy for sights, restaurants, public transport etc. Also the staff were very helpful and friendly.

This budget hotel is right in the heart of the city, a three minute walk from Flinders Street Station; there are trams and a variety of eateries from pubs/cafes to specialty cupcake shops to a supermarket that stocks pre-packaged meals, right outside the door. Otherwise HF1 has all the basic amenities you would expect (no fridge), is neat and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great if you're on a budget and have a show to see in the city, or if you're visiting Melbourne and plan to not spend much time in your room.
