This was very much as we expected. A decent sized room but basic. There was however air-conditioning which was a bonus as Melbourne was very hot when we were there (early Nov). The hotel was in a great location, handy for sights, restaurants, public transport etc. Also the staff were very helpful and friendly.

This budget hotel is right in the heart of the city, a three minute walk from Flinders Street Station; there are trams and a variety of eateries from pubs/cafes to specialty cupcake shops to a supermarket that stocks pre-packaged meals, right outside the door. Otherwise HF1 has all the basic amenities you would expect (no fridge), is neat and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great if you're on a budget and have a show to see in the city, or if you're visiting Melbourne and plan to not spend much time in your room.

Anyways we are off to bed since we have to be up just after 4am to make the hour trek to the airport for our flight at 8:45am.

Don't know how much internet access I'll have over the next few weeks but I will write the posts and just post them when I get the chance

    Until next time....

... but I'm hoping to update this shortly.

John's wife Wendy, who was the one I originally contacted back in 1988, had my first letter I ever wrote to her on file. Golly, that goes back a long way. It was really good to meet them and put a face to the names. We stayed for a lovely roast dinner before making our way back to the caravan. During the night we heard the rain coming down and wondered what sort of a day we would have tomorrow.

We bought pies in Inverloch, avoiding the huge bakery-café on the main street for a more modest shop. Bakery-cafés are apparently all the range across Victoria. This is unlike NSW where, at most, a Vietnamese hot-bread shop / bakery will have only a handful of seats.
