    Good value in handy location

This was very much as we expected. A decent sized room but basic. There was however air-conditioning which was a bonus as Melbourne was very hot when we were there (early Nov). The hotel was in a great location, handy for sights, restaurants, public transport etc. Also the staff were very helpful and friendly.

This budget hotel is right in the heart of the city, a three minute walk from Flinders Street Station; there are trams and a variety of eateries from pubs/cafes to specialty cupcake shops to a supermarket that stocks pre-packaged meals, right outside the door. Otherwise HF1 has all the basic amenities you would expect (no fridge), is neat and clean, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Great if you're on a budget and have a show to see in the city, or if you're visiting Melbourne and plan to not spend much time in your room.

A night of rain.. again. The rain however was starting to ease off come the morning.

Today was the last day with the camper in Australia. We did all the chores ready to hand the camper back. We emptied the waste water, the toilet, refilled the water, swept out and cleaned. The camper was all ready to be returned, but we had one final stop …

We also quizzed Fred (our tour manager) on all of our names earlier today and (with a little help from Dr. Roux) got them all right! It has been a very fun and exciting day, now it's time to wrap this up and relax for the rest of the ride home! So goodnight from Australia and good morning to you all back in the ...

... mate. We strolled back to downtown along the river bank watching the local high school rowing teams scull along the calm waters of the Yarra. Today we walked 10 miles!

We dined again at Ruyi, the great little Chinese restaurant, this time taking our friends the Swingles and the McGowans. The owner was delighted to see customers return so soon with additional guests in tow.

... spent ages trying to set the right number. The plane was pretty full, the flight uneventful. Robin and Brian were there to meet me. Perth was a lot hotter and drier than Melbourne. The temperature was in the 30s and it hadn't rained for three months. On the way to their house we saw several kangaroos, smaller than I expected. We sat on the patio, knocking back Pimm's, then ate wonderful steaks washed down with a Tasmanian Pinot Noir. I slept so ...

... first difficult for me to even distinguish the penguins from the seagulls already on the beach! But they come in, and then linger on the beach while they wait for the rest of their group to come in, before waddling up past us and up the hill! It was lovely to watch and quite spectacular the way they organize themselves! The Koreans next to me got over-excited and had to be reminded to sit down so the rest of us could see, but once they'd seen two groups arrive they got bored and left. ...
