Our itinerary has included the Philippines every since our friends Lee and Grace showed us photos of the house they had built on the coast of Mindinao and invited us to stay with them for a while. Prior to that invitation we had planned to simply island hop up the Malaysian archipelago into South East Asia, which if you look …

In total, 26 million people live here - in everything from modern, luxury condos to shanty-town hovels under bridges and beside railroad tracks. It's a noisy, dirty, busy city, with poor public transit, the largest city in the world without a subway.

... morning and get a flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui the same day. This would still cost less than what I had originally expected to pay for a flight from Jakarta to Koh Samui. Janet had been waiting with our bags so I went back to her to report the latest news, and tried to convince her that going to Thailand would be better than going home. Especially as we don't have a home to go back to for another 4 weeks and going home would involve 3 flights where as Thailand only 2. ...
