... and even gasthofs is entirely older American (english) hit songs. We even got to watch the Voice in German and every young contestant sang slightly old tunes in english - things have certainly changed!!

We got our bearings and did a walking tour of the downtown area and as far as our first two residences in Lahr. Of course we wandered by the "Horse" and have a picture for you ...

... was superb but it was getting on an we thought we would try to get to Obernai, a very quaint town some 32 km south-west. The long and the short of it was that we got there after dark and try to find a pension in the dark in a town crawling with - you guessed it - those damned tourists!!! reviews. It was only a short walk from the hotel, and we got there and
it seemed closed. There was scaffolding and such outside and it looked
closed. We went inside anyway, climbed some stairs, and sure enough it
was a fully functional restaurant. Part of ...

... most noted for its one cobblestone path that circles through the town. Walking on it, you see beautiful doorways, lined with flowers and more merchant signs.

Hot day, and getting hotter. We took advantage of the town's fountains to splash some cold water on our arms and necks, just like they did in the old days.

We wanted to have lunch in this town, but the restaurant we selected from Rick's books was closed. All of the ...
