    Another cold but clear morning as we left the apartment, in two trips down the five flights of steps, then enjoyed a coffee at a cafe on the corner. We had seen the nearby taxi ranks each day we have been here, but alas, today when we needed one the local authorities had closed the road to put the Christmas lights up.     ... is not 100% certain, we do know that our grandmother Malka (known alternatively as Mania, Mary or Maria) was with Nathan. For how long we don't know but at least for some time in early 1939 as my dad was born May 7, 1940, three days incidentally, before the Germans invaded Belgium.
