    TOURS TO BLOIS

... probably slows us down a little bit. We rode in to Blois about 1.30, spied an Ibis hotel almost immediately, and booked in for the night. It has reinforced for us, that price is no indication of quality, as our room is probably 10 times better than last night, yet cheaper. Last night it was like trying to dry ourselves with a large cotton tea towel, tonight we've got real towels. The toilet at last nights hotel was electric, never seen that before. Once again we ...

This morning was grey, wet, and the long drive took it's toll on our enthusiasm for Chateau D'Oiron near Loudun. The basic theme is that some of the old ...

Our guests walked 8 kms before breakfast and we spent some time notionally spending the prize from the lottery drawn last night. After checking our tickets at Juan's coffee shop we put together a picnic and spent the day beside the Vienne river and at Chateau Rivau to keep within our original budgets. Rivau, being a Chateau of the Beauvau family who were supporters of the counts of Anjou, was fortified in 1445 and 'Royal stables' were built soon after. Jean of Arc ...

... where the Chateau Chenonceau is located. It was a lovely drive through farm country and a few small hamlets with roads winding between buildings so narrow we could have shaken hands with anyone reaching out from their doorway.

At last we arrived at the castle entrance, which we would have known just from the tour busses parking lot. After we purchased our tickets we walked down a long pathway lined with trees, making our arrival at the ...
