Hello From the Sandbox!!

... 40 before you steal $3 from us." Are they commies from the former East Germany or something? Am I missing something? What is so hard to understand about the concept of sharing? I wish them well in life and hope they learn one day sharing is a great concept that can save money and hassles when traveling. You even meet some neat people in the process.

I wandered past a gateful of men in their white robes heading for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and was shocked at ...

Fujairah

... very scenic rock formations to the city of Fujairah.I remained in the bus as it continued its way to the enclave of Khor Fakkan that is actually a Sharjah owned territory on the eastcoast. 6 emirates in one day, and happy to be back in Dubai for the night!

Saturday Off

... a few couchsurfers for an outing to the Indian coast. I had already been to Khorfakkan, but I was ok to go back there with divers, and I actually had three excellent dives! Quite a lot of fish, beautiful coral, big big murays, a turtle, in a word: enchanting! Before heading back to Dubai we drove south of Fujairah to Al Hail, village and further down the trail a fort. It was dominating a small oasis where dates were already beeing dried on the ground. The fort had been ...

Arrival Dubai & Fujairah

First Trip to UAE. First impression, hot & humid, modern & civilised, if I can say that. Got through immigration without problems thanks to the Marhaba Service, really not necessary, there was nothing going on at the Airport. Outside hundreds of drivers waiting to pick passengers up, couldn't find mine. Then finally I got a glimpse of his board with the hotel name. Nice ...

Tales From The Sand Box - Episode 3

... and a couple of egg and lettuce sandwiches. The lovely little place designated to host our five hour fuelling is called Fujairah (Foo-Jy-Rar). Oh my god!!!!! I think that one of the boys said it best when he quipped "If this is the middle east, you can keep it". Fujairah is in the United Arab Emirates just south of the entrance to the Straits of Hormuz. We didn't actually get to see the town but if the port was anything to go by I don't think we missed much. I will ...

D-Dive

... And French engineers... The dive was not awesome, but I really enjoyed it! We went down on a wreck, the water was very murky and the visibility only 5 meters. At 20 meters deep without much light, there was not much life either. But enough to get lost in contemplation, and we even saw some big sea horses (hippocampes). Back to the resort for lunch, as I said that weekend was terribly hot, and at noon it was impossible to leave your feet in the sand, even walking on it ...

Evening Explorations

... whatever, there were loaaaads of Indians on the side. So I parked there, and just walked along to see the animation. There were agglutinations of them in front of electronic shops, as all the Indians would stop by to see a few cricket throw on TV. What a pity. Cricket! At some point there was a big pink sign called "the vegetarian palace" or something, and I went in for dinner. The guy explained me all of these small stuff they ...

It's A Cultural Thing!

... of the fort and he said "this. this is port! PORT!" I was like "whatever WHO'S the native english speaker" paid the man and we were on our way. The fort was amazing, it was small but totally rebuilt and in a great position in the city. It sits on a hill that over looks both a valley before the rising mountains, and the entire city on the other side. There were also small house next to the fort that we checked out. After some time there we made our way to the street and hailed a taxi. The ...

Dubai - Day 8

... thing about this city. The airport seemed very quiet. There were planes that looked old and disused and it's proximity to the city? Well.. probably not more than 5kms from the city centre. We drove past this dodgy part of town, and Mark suggested we stop and have some 'authentic' arabic food. The rest of the car was going to cause mutiny over this decision. As he drove up to the driveway to the restaurant, everyone in the car was practically yelling at him, to keep on ...

More beached and the bounced back to Dubai

... We decided it was going to such a pain in the **** so we said screw it and caught a bus back to Dubai. We ended up getting stuck just outside Dubai in Massive traffic Jam. The bus was so hot and they had some crazy Islamic musical on the TVs turned up full bore. It was pretty desperate and we were going out of our minds, insanity. Finally we ended up back in Dubai and went out for a few beers.
