We only went through the main entrance, hung out in the playground and took a few casual pictures after lunch. There was also a greenhouse somewhere, but we didn't have time to check out because I had to do homework before class. Also Emily and Christine had an ...
Madrid, Spain ecuyos... distinct from the U.S. At the most general level, meals are later here...breakfast around 9-10, lunch between 2 and 4, and dinner around 9 or 10 PM. At bars or cafes, it's "pay as you go" - the waiter hands you your food and expects payment right then. You can't keep the tab open. On the other hand, at restaurants you could sit and nurse a bottle of wine all night and never get your bill if you don't explicitely ASK for it.
Madrid, Spain fritzandjenny... businesses are open on Sunday, which helped me a lot since I needed someplace to lunch! Oh, and I have to tell you that I stopped by a heladeria today and bought a pequena arroz con leche - which is...rice pudding ice cream (well - it was actually gelato). It actually was frozen rice pudding - which was about the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. The modern section of Madrid is not nearly as fancy (but don't tell any of the Spanish I said ...

Barcelona, Spain, Spain vickydelgadoSo, I've been here for 2 weeks. Seems like less time to me, but whatever :) I realized I had no easy way to let everyone know whats going on, because some don't have facebook or myspace (good for you!) But anyways... So far Spain has been awesome! Bit of advice- if you're ever in Madrid, DON'T take a taxi. >.< Awful. Trust me. The taxi ride from the airport to the bus station cost more than my bus ride cross-country! (BTW- Buses = super cheap ...
Valencia, Spain lizannemarie... in North America (more on food below). 9) The air in Madrid feels very dry -- not surprising, consider how far inland it is. That makes for very thirsty Canadians, especially the ones who talk a lot all day training. It also makes for dry skin. 10) Madrilenos use up every inch of possible parking space -- parking right around the corner. Literally. 11) The airport - Terminal 1 - is chaotic, old and not particularly friendly. 12) Madrilenos eat late. Lunch ...
Madrid, Spain hsb... of the Soccer World Cup and it was rumoured that the now ill Franco was obsessed with the fact that Spain was not successful in reaching the finals, at the expense of peaceful politics at home. Once we were comfortable in the first class carriage of the Spanish train and heading for Madrid, sleep was the main thing on my mind. We put that on hold though as we were sharing a compartment with a nice couple from Australia who had just travelled from Italy. As Italy was on our itinerary we ...
Madrid, Spain rickatok... out on the street armed with a map and bottle of water. Madrilenos are nicknamed gatos (cats) for their feline-like habits of nocturnal living. After all the canineness I experienced in England, I thought it was high time to balance it out a bit. We wandered for about 4 hours in the soft glow of the street lamps hitting many plazas, parks and monuments. I was pleased to have gotten to the point that I can give my entire story in less than two minutes. It was ...
Madrid, Spain whereshegoes... fifteen minutes when a steer is released to go any persuade the bull to call it a day. The bull normally obliges, but on at least one occasion the bull seemed to be getting so much genuine pleasure out of bruising people that it took a lot of coaxing to get back into the pen. Despite the arena anarchy, there were seemingly some rules. First and foremost, don't hold onto or manhandle the bulls. More than one person was savagely set upon by locals for attempting to wrestle the bull ...
