Mahires to Aghir
Day 9 & 10
The following morning we headed towards Djerba, a tourist island near the Libyan border. The roads were good, and after a short ferry trip costing only 0.800 TD (Less than R5) for all of us plus Corrie, we arrive on the island around midday. We found a little place on the beach were a room for 4 was only 4TD more than camping, so we stayed there for two days, within 20m of the sea. ...

The island of Jerba
... under the stars. We could not have planned this better. We cooked a nice meal, drank the last of our booze (which included a bottle of Moet champers!!), quite a treat. We went to bed exhausted after a long day........and then........ Cape Towns south-easter struck in Tunisia. About a hour after we went to bed the wind picked up, and we were forced to abandon ship, and take the tent down. Needless to say, we slept in the car, it was a long night!!!

The Isle of Djerba
We stayed at a beautiful hotel/resort in Djerba along the beach where riders, at dusk and dawn, appeared with their horses. Really a beautiful setting. In Djerba we visited a functioning synagogue as well as the medina area of Houmt Souk, Djerba's main market town. . The medina was very quaint in appearance with many of the locals wearing traditional dress.
