We woke up this morning to find ourselves just coming into Palma de Mallorca. Mallorca is the largest of the four Ballearic Islands – part of Spain and Palma is the capital. Very pretty little city and extremely well organized cruise ship dock – with ramps like at an Airport that you use to get yourselves into a covered walkway that takes you to the exit where you can pick up taxis or a bus into the town – ...
Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain suzanne-norman... out. It takes awhile to moor the yacht stern to, (the back end up against the dock) and to get out all the fenders (large air filled pads that keep the boats from rubbing up against each other and to setup the passarelle (like a long plank that is motorized with hand rails on each side). By the time we were able to go to shore we were dressed and ready. Several of the crew members had been here before so they were our guides to finding the dance clubs ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands mylifesjourneyWe arrived in Cala de Calobra around 5:30. We anchored in the small bay and took a tender to shore. The little village has a small pier along one side of a steep hill and the village is crowded on the hillside raising between two much larger and steeper hills. The whole thing looks like some Hollywood set because of its idyllic setting on the small bay. There are several bars and restaurants where we got drinks and ate an early dinner.
sa Calobra, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourneyWe left Ciutadella around 8 AM to cross back over to Mallorco and into the Bahai de Pollença. It is a deep cut and large protected bay on the northwest corner of the island. We anchored out in the bay, away from other boats and the crew setup everything for watersports. Since everyone was more spread out and busy with different ...
Port de Pollença, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourney... one you shouldn’t miss if you ever make it to Mallorca.

None of my pics looked very good so, instead of posting my bad pics, below is the link the caves website. Their pics are much better than mine and also show the boats on the underwater lake. http://www.cuevasdeldrach.com/

A fter ...
Porto Cristo, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands mylifesjourney... from Germany. Good music, dancing starts up. We leave at 1:30 to catch the last bus. I am relying on my roommate who is totally confident about the schedule. Well, we wait with others but find out the last bus left awhile back. We need to find a cab which is difficult since everyone is trying to get to a bar/club somewhere. We finally get one. A late night by my standards but just starting to get going. My back could not take any more.
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.traveller... afternoon at the beach back in Playa de Palma. It is so nice to have warm weather with sun. Quite a contrast from Scandinavia. This is an area full of German tourists. Mostly Spring break atmosphere. Apparently it is dominated by package deals. I have seen very few other nationalities here. As an indication, at the airport, Air Berlin dominated the airlines (even though this is Spain it is not Iberia or SpanAir).
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.traveller... of Spanish. For a novice, this throws me off quite a bit. Luckily they all speak English but reading can be difficult although many places will have both languages represented.

By the time I am done settling in, I have just enough time for a quick walk along the beach. It is a long beach, 2km or so. It is reasonably pretty with palm trees. The street along the beach is full of bars, restaurants and tourist stores. Every block is a cookie cutter of the next. I crash early.
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.traveller10 days of enjoying the good life up in the north of Mallorca.

After a turbulent trip I finally arrived on the very first day of my summerholidays and got picked up by my sister and her friend for some shopping in Palma! (Luckily we did not get affected by the ETA attacks, we heared about that much later that day!)
The rest of the day though I spend sleeping at the beach- not ...
