Genial

Amazing time!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I literally came back from this holiday this morning, and have had the most fantastic holiday of a lifetime! I went with 9 other adults (18+)- and no, were not the loud angry British type, like were sterotypically known as!

The hotel was amazing! On arrival we were all stunned on how much space there was to offer! Food stops at 12am (which was when we arrived) but they still catered our needs, and gave us loads of sandwiches.

The hotel rooms were lovely, they were very clean and spacious. They have fridges, to keep water cold for you and air/con.......but ours didnt work, Which was the only problem we encountered. We booked this holiday over a year ago, and specifically asked for all our rooms to be placed near to each other, but they placed us on opposite ends of the hotel!! I think they must have thought us being 18 year olds, we would have to be separated. This got on my nerves, but gave us exercise walking between!

The food was soo varied! i cant believe reading the other reviews, that it was all the same? A year on, and the food was gorgeous. The fresh pancakes in the morning were lovely, along with the pain au chocolats! As soon as we sat down the waiters took our drink orders, and they were always really friendly! The bars were always very well stocked with water bottles, as you cant drink their tap water. What i didnt like was, when they added ice to your drinks, when you specifically ask for 'no ice'. The cocktails were all really strange, which i had expected! Being on 'all-inc' i thought they might be tastier!

The hotel wasnt packed hardly, the majority of people there were french and German and outnumbered the English. The reps made a really good job of making sure that the holiday was enjoyable, and catered every problem you had immediately. I would definitely reccommend you choose Thomas Cook as the operator, as they are very organised with teh entire trip. On the first day you arrive, they have a meeting with all the guests, detailing everything you need to know.

The medina is a short walk down the road, literally 5 mins, and also a supermarket (incase a craving for crisps!) We had some hassle with sellers, but the only advice i can give is to just ignore them. They will leave you alone, but they all have it in for blonde women! So watch your back! Simply giving a straight 'no' answer and giving no eye contact, is usually good enough.

The Chich Khan also has a lovely private spot on the beach. They have an all inclusiev part on the bar, so you can keep stock up on your drinks. Many people on our holiday turned ill, due to lack of water. You dont realise how much you have to drink, we were told at least 2 more litres than your daily amount!

I would recommend this holiday to anyone! Although it was only a week, there was plently more excursions we could have done! I wouldnt complain about anything, was a holiday of a lifetime =D

Wow what a hotel

from general_trader
ok well we have been dying to write a review about our stay at the chich khan, before we went we read some bad reviews! yet it was amazing! truly.. im very fussy and picky so im goin to say the good things 1st, it was all plain sailing getting there and when we arrived we were shown to our room, lovely! we had 2 children with us so i was even more unsure of what to expect but i checked out pool and beach it was exactly as described and when i can ill put photos up, i was concerned about what the kids would drink because your not supposed to drink their water so for the 1st couple of days i watched what everyone was drinking and eating,if you do get a tummyache dont think straight away i have food poisining it could be just that you ate to much or a certain type of food didnt go down well with you, its so easy to over-eat, once i had a tummyache and i was fine a couple of hours later luckily i had no need to be worried the food there was great, another great thing is that u could drink literally what u want everything is free! i no its all inclusive but sometimes certain drinks arent free, waiters are brilliant they show u respect, they are good at their job! the staff are fab with the kids getting to no them taking a real interest, playing with them basically being on their level. i just cant say enough how great they are with children, the pool area is wonderful clean, theres a poolside bar which the kids loved they had so many drinks 1 after the other yet the staff never got annoyed with them, beach is everything it promises so spotlessly clean, sea i was a little disapointed with wasnt very clear looked like oil but it was just seaweed, u could go in certain parts of it though, it didnt stop my son enjoying himself! the maids made such an effort by putting flowers and petals on our beds to make them look pretty its the little things like that that we will remember our holiday, the evening entertainment was ok for the kids at least they put effort into it and enjoy themselves while they are doing it. if their smiling then you and your kids are!!! there is a man there who takes photos all the time of every1 whether your in pool, on beach, in hotel just anywhere which i found annoying to be honest some people liked it though, in the hotel is a machine that shows all the photos that he takes. any1 can view them and they are expensive funny thing was they wanted payment in euros which its hard enough understanding dinars, i think it was about 2.50 in our money for each photo!!! went on camel ride was brill....they also take photos and i think its expected for you to buy its about 12 dinar which is about 5 pound in our money for 5 or 6 photos, there are people at the hotel which will bombard u with trips to go on ie quadbiking, camel ride etc it is recomended that u only book trips through your rep as u wont be insured if anything happens while on those trips, we booked the camel ride and all was fine but it wasnt through our rep, another i read about on here is about hotel not being a 4 star what people need to remember is that what we class as a 4 star and what they class as a 4 star is different its bound to be seein as its 2 totally different countries and has different facilities, haggling you have to do it really its also expected dont be fooled by the charming words they use, you could speak to other guests and ask their advice because thats what i did and it really does help, i was on beach and a seller said a bracelet was28 dinar i got it down to 5 dinar, they do tell you stupid prices!1 last thing about tunisian men be careful they dont care whether you are 21 or 51 they will give you the gift of the gab and ladies please its really not flattering because they do it to every1, wen i wasnt with my boyfriend i was given marriage proposels, tried to be kissed they are terrible but still friendly, anyway i no this has been a long review but i wanted to get everythin in please email me if you want to ask me anythin, you can also view some of my photos on there, also remember this is just my personal opinion whatever bad points i have said you might not find, its true what they say your holiday is what u make it!!!!

When is 4 star not a 4 star...

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have just returned from Hammamet in Tunisia were we stayed at the Iberostar Chick Khan. The staff were very friendly and helpfull and although the hotel had all of the required facilities for a 4 star hotel, it was a little grubby in places.

In my opinion it is a 3 star hotel. Don't get me wrong we did enjoy our holiday and overall I would say that it was value for money but I would have paid more for a better hotel, a proper 4 star hotel.

Great Staff Good surroundings

from 3-kids-and-still-hot
Chich Khan was not my first choice of Hotel. However My children and I arrived late in the evening, the staff were curteous. Our room was of a good standard and the requirements I had specified were met to the best of their abilities, apart from My 9 year old son did not have his own bed, this was rectified immediately when the staff were informed. The facilities ( sports, entertainment ) were far below the expectations that the brochure claimed. However, the entertainment and bar and waiting staff were excellent, very friendly took the time to learn peoples names and nationalities, the entertainment revolved around a different theme each evening, from fire eating to belly dancing the staffs own rendition of Grease, Karoke, Raffles, where possible all information was expressed in many languages. I myself suffered from extreme Tummy upsets, but the children were fine.

A Big thank you the the entertainment staff .. Mimi, Mido, Armin, Ilyes, Dj Fares, Chico , Mario, Nunu,

and bar staff Yousri, Hamed, And Sami.

Not worth 4 star

from A TripAdvisor Member
although the staff were friendly, helpful and quick to respond to any complaints, the hotel lacked the finishing touches for a 4 star rating. The fish pond around the pool smelt badly and although it was cleaned out whilst we were there it should not have got into such a state in the first place. No indoor pool was available even though it was stated in the brochure. The entertainment team worked hard but facilities were poor. The "GREASE" show was badly managed and I certainly didn't approve of them smoking whilst setting up the show especially as there was straw on the floor and the show was in the disco room. Not enough variety in the food. Certain members of staff obviously preferred the French visitors than English. We would say this deserved a rating of "Okay, but some problems". 2 Star

Great Holiday...Recommended Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My hubby, myself and our 6 kids have just returned last week from the chich khan. This was a great hotel and we had a fab time. The hotel was clean and the food very good, staff very friendly and helpful. The entertainment in the evening is very basic but it tends to be in Tunisia anyway. Plenty to do in the daytime and the pool is very good. Overall a very good enjoyable holiday and yes we would return to the chich khan again. One point to be aware of is, when changing money at the hotel reception make sure none of your english bank notes are ripped or sellotaped as they will not change them as the banks do not accept them. Try a strawberry and apple hubbly bubbly pipe with Ali Baba in the hotel, its only 3 dinar and tastes delicious! Oh and by the way, the weather was VERY hot, over 45 degrees, got a great tan but take a high factor with you, my kids burnt with factor 50 on !!

Not worth a 4* Rating

from Peach21
This hotel looks stunning from the outside but there were several problems which should not exist for a 4 star hotel:

Facilities - were not very good. Table tennis was poor. The sauna was no good and expensive for something that didnt work properly. We had to use another hotel's facilities. The inside pool smelt.

Food - not a great variety throughout our 1-week stay. It was more or less the same dishes each day.

Rooms - Our room was bright and clean. We had some sandwiches and fruit in our room when we arrived at about 11pm.

Excursions - the excursions from the hotel were good.

Taxi facilities - very good. Very easy to flag down a yellow taxi. Actually there's no need to flag them down they will come to you anyway.

Location - this hotel is in Yasmine Hammamet, not to be confused with Hammamet. Yasmine Hammamet was very quiet when we went in Jan 2003. We felt isolated from other tourists but the main busy resort of Hammamet was only a short 15 minute taxi ride away.

Staff - staff were friendly but I was badly robbed of about £30 when exchanging currency at the reception in the hotel. Because of this I would never stay at this hotel again. BEWARE!!!

Hotel Iberostar Chich Khan ***

My partner and me where there from 21/05/05 to 28/05/05.

Hotel is clean and staff is very friendly.

The food is excellent, much better than expected considering it's a buffet. The only negative point was that there was not much fruit for dessert.

The animation team was good during the day. Very friendly, making you feel at home (espacially Amine). Evening shows where not great, we went to bed every night around 10-11 pm because we where bored...

The pool is big enough (hotel was fully booked) and clean, with a big part for children. Chairs and matrasses are included (also at the beach). Towels can be received with a 10 Dinar deposit.

The beach is a 2 min walk and private. It's clean but the sea is really dirty. You can't see through. There is a beach bar which wasn't open during our stay and when open in high season it's not all inclusive. Very annoying are the Tunesians constantly interrupting your reading to sell necklesses, cigarettes, palmtrees,... An other hotel offers jetski, pedalo, kano and banana.

The rooms are big and well equiped but simple, not finished in details. But apperently that is typical for Tunesia. There are 3 floors. There are a few connecting rooms and family rooms. There is an empty minibar, tv (BBC world, VOX, Eurosport, France 2, France3,...), a terras with table and chairs, hairdryer, bath with shower.

In the hotel there is a small shop, 2 tenniscourts, pingpong, videogames, 2 pooltables, indoor swimmingpool, fitness (free), diso and thalassocenter with 1 x free hammam. There a themerestaurant where you can go to 1 x (we did the Italian theme = ok).

A 5 min walk to the medina with shops, bars, restaurants and a children attractionpark Carthage Land and an ATM.

We did the 3 hours camelride that can be booked in the hotel. It was good and costs 30 Dinar per person. We also rented a Vespa for a day (10 hours) at hotel Savanna and paid 45 Dinar. We went to Tunis with it (60 km) and spent the day there.

Ovarall the hotel was fine for a relaxing holiday. There's not much to do in the neighbourhood so after a week you'd probably get bored.

Great hols

wow what a hotel. everything about it was well above average. the staff on the reception were excellent. Everywhere was very clean and tidy. The food was good, better than i was expecting, entertainment was ok for kids. The bars are more for relaxing. The rooms were great, very big and kept very clean. We went on some trips, the pirate ship, Tunis all very good. I would recommend this hotel to anybody. Thanks for a great holiday. We will return.
