... Mallorca was the first place we’ve been where it hasn’t rained while we’ve been touring although, we only missed the storm by a couple of hours – by nine o’clock it was wild and the sea was quite rough although in a ship this size, it doesn’t move around that much.

Pictures will have to follow after I unload the camera

More when we hit Tunis on Suzanne’s birthday.
Mallorca, Balearic Islands, Spain suzanne-normanPalma is a beautiful city and has a nice attitude about it. You get the feeling that there is mystery, danger or something just lurking around the next corner, but when you round the corner, what you find is yet another party and another group of residents who seem to have truly mastered the secrets of a good life.

We arrived in Palma close of midnight on Wednesday. This city is also known for its wild nightlife and tonight was our only opportunity to ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands mylifesjourneyWe arrived in Cala de Calobra around 5:30. We anchored in the small bay and took a tender to shore. The little village has a small pier along one side of a steep hill and the village is crowded on the hillside raising between two much larger and steeper hills. The whole thing looks like some Hollywood set because of its idyllic setting on the small bay. There are several bars and restaurants where we got drinks and ate an early dinner.
sa Calobra, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourney... lunch was served buffet style on the main deck so everyone could eat at their leasure and were it was the most convenient for them.

Waterskiing is very exhausting and after a few hours of playing on the water, the crew loaded everything up and we headed down to coast to the small village of sa Calobra on the Cala de Calobra.
Port de Pollença, Balearic Islands, Spain mylifesjourneyJust south of the town of Portocristo are the Cuevas del Drach, which are really four caves all connected to each other. This cave however has a large lake in it, called Martel Lake. It's large enough to ride a boat in and to see all the stalactites hanging from the ceiling. It’s a beautiful place ...
Porto Cristo, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands mylifesjourney... speak no English. We have a great dinner and some nice (and inexpensive) wine. The owners are from Argentina so I discuss my trip to South America with them.

We head out to the main bar/club street. My back is killing me. Every step is painful but I try to put it out of my mind. The area along the harbor has a good café crowd but the bars are empty. We finally go into one at 12. Within 30 minutes there is a good crowd. Almost all ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.travellerBreakfast is provided at the hostel. Coffee, juice, toast and cereal (cornflakes or cocoa puffs). It serves the purpose.

I go to the Palma city center (20 minutes by bus). The historic area is OK. Cathedral is beautiful and there is a Moorish castle. Most of the city lacks character. So, this is pretty much a beach island although I understand there are some nice hikes in its more remote hills.

A ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.traveller... has 4 beds). He is from Madrid but speaks English well. A good chance for me to work on my Spanish. He is 24, in Mallorca for a week to get away from it all. A very nice guy. He had met a woman from Slovakia which keeps him busy during much of my stay.

Dialects of Spanish make it much harder for a novice. I learned Playa for beach in Spanish while in Mallorca it is Platja. Even names of places Mallorca vs Majorca, Ibiza vs Eivissa. This part of Spain speaks Catalan, a ...
Palma, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands will.traveller... my friend Sanny, with whom I worked together in the sailing school some years ago.
We managed to go Catsailing two times, and always had some good wind to ride the double trapez! Always getting me into adrenaline rushes ;-)

An evening with a big barbecue at Sannys terrasse and a night out for some fantastic guitar livemusic...

...unbelievable how fast time is passing!
Alcudia, Valencian Country, Spain and Canary Islands kattiline...
