While we arrived at the Grand Hotel Mencey at midnight because of a flight delay we were greeted warmly and were soon checked into a Deluxe Garden View Room. The furnishings were sleek and the amenities were those expected of a five star hotel. We were told there was a 24 hour room service menu available but sadly when we called we discovered that the only food available was a salad, so we order two along with a bottle of wine and some bread. Sometime later the waiter arrived with a our order. We were famished and of course hunger is the best seasoning. The fresh rolls from the oven probably explain the waiting time but we enjoyed them with the variety of toppings.
Then is was time for a much needed sleep!
The breakfast buffet insured that any lingering hunger we had was satisfied. Every breakfast item you could ask for was available.
There is a lovely spa and pool area in the garden. Our traveling companions used both and were very satisfied with the gym as well.
The hotel is conveniently located and we were able walk through a lovely park to the central shopping area as well as many tourist sites.
The hotel staff was polite and helpful.
I would definitely recommend a stay in this classic establishment!

After the snow and then rainy weather in Stockholm we were more than ready for a little holiday.
We were lucky to be traveling with our friends Christine and Pelle. He is a consummate travel planner and we put our itinerary in his capable hands. In fact, Lars' only instructions were "surprise me" and so when we met at the airport in …
... perfect way for me to end my trip here on the island. Yesterday actually started out somewhat more complicated than I would have liked, since my phone charger has been broken for about a week and my phone died the night before. I ended up not being able to set an alarm and wake up on time, so I was unfortunately unable to shadow in Gynecology that day. The reason I'm not completely disappointed about this is because I realized that all I was going to see was more Cesarian Sections ...
... awake. It seemed that some of the other residents were having similar problems.
After the session was over, we ran down to the other hospital with three residents to see a very quick presentation all residents were required to attend. We only caught the last five or ten minutes of it, and again I was so tired that I didn't make much of an effort to understand anything. After our residents signed their attendance sheet, we ran back up to el ...
Yesterday was my last day in internal medicine at the hospital, and I had a really amazing last day! Paco and I continued checking in on patients as we have throughout the week, and I was excited to see how all the patients' health issues are progressing.
Today was especially exciting because I got to see a particularly interesting patient that has been here since Monday. This woman was found in her home unconscious on the floor, and when she was brought to the ...
... fourth weekend! I got burned pretty badly on every part of my body, and I'm just now beginning to peel all that skin away, but it was so worth it. We only have one more weekend here before we all go our separate ways, so I'm really thankful that I got to have a great one with my friends. It's so crazy to think that two weeks from now, I won't even be here anymore! I'm dreading leaving the island, but I also can't wait to see my girlfriend and family again. Here's to an awesome weekend!
