... Canal City before walking back to our hotel. We were pretty exhausted after a day of walking and shopping so we relaxed for a couple of hours before heading out for dinner. We didn't want to go very far, nor have too large a meal so we found the perfect place right across the street from our hotel - a place called Sukiya where they served simple one bowl meals called gyu-don, beef or pork cooked with vegetables served on top of rice. We were served at our low table and brought course after course of the most incredible looking and tasting food. Horsemeat was on the menu (again) but they check with you first and I declined. Dave wasn't that impressed by it and said it wasn't so tasty rare so that made me happy. They ...

Himeji to Kumamoto... I did mention the castles?

... the sun ( at last!) It was a typical Japanese affair, no shoes inside, your given a bag to carry them in during your visit, it was again very busy but very organised with people guided around pinch points to prevent overcrowding. The actual castle looked great with its white plaster cladding and decoration, all round a wooden frame as most if not all Japanese castles were? It made for a really good visit and the sunshine helped, ...
