Historical Traveler Reviews of Hyde Park Hotel Buenos Aires

This hotel was a HUGE disappointment!! Although the location was ideal and the price was very reasonable, the hotel has two VERY different type of rooms. The picture on the internet of the room is most certainly not the standard. Some rooms/floors were quite nice while others were hiddeous. We were initially given a room that was really awful -- peeled paint, stains, twin bed and truly sub-standard. After 2 days of much fighting with the very rude front desk clerk we finally got a room that looked a bit more like the one on the internet (albeit still two twin beds instead of the king or two doubles pictured and paid for). Because you cannot be assured of what room you'll end up with, I would definitely stay away from this hotel.

Rochester Concept -- Worst Hotel in Argentina (Possibly The World)
from DCMundo
I booked a package trip on Orbitz that included a stay in the so-called three-star Rochester Concept Hotel on Maipu Street in Microcentro. This was a horrible experience during the entire 27 hours I endured it before throwing in the towel and booking another FABULOUS hotel (see my other review) in order to salvage my otherwise terrific holiday.
Highlights:
1) Was not allowed to check into my room until 3 hours after check-in time, with no explanation or apology.
2) Room I was given was on second floor overlooking the narrow extremely busy street frequented by smog-spewing buses and taxis. I asked for another room and they claimed none were available, even though all the major travel sites on the Internet indicated they had rooms available that evening.
3) The room looks NOTHING like the photos on the Orbitz and other travel sites. Perhaps that room exists somewhere, but it bore no resemblance to mine. Bedspreads were tattered, ugly, and dirty. The TV was a 12 inch black and white number (didnīt know they were even still manufactured), there is no closet space or drawers to put clothes. There is no air conditioning or heat, even though this city's temperatures fluctuate from 40 degrees Fahrenheit to 95 degrees in their summer.
4) Breakfast buffet is a joke. Cheap, processed cold cuts, one type of cereal, stale pastry, instant coffee, etc.
5) You have to actually pay for the free Internet service in the lobby, which is extremely slow and actually in a corner of the dining room.
6) The staff are exceptionally rude. I was told three times I could change rooms later the second day I was there, only to be told in the end no rooms were available. Again, no apology or explanation for their inconsistent and vague communications.
Whatever you do, AVOID this hotel. I have stayed in more than 10 hotels in Buenos Aires and every single one of the others offered good service, clean well-appointed rooms, and affordable prices. Therefore, there is no reason to tolerate this lousy hotel in this amazing city.

Our Rochester Concept Hotel was totally remodelled and all rooms do look like the pictures shown on our website. The remodelling process included changing the existing bedspreads, furniture and TVs.
HVAC systems are centralized and their adjustment is available from our front desk. Wifi internet access is free at lobby areas; but internet access from the computers located at our lobby area are available at a low cost.
Our buffet breakfast includes cereals, home made breads and pattiserie, hot and cold beverages and scrumbbled eggs between some others.

Tourist-Friendly, but disappointing
from eddieiah
After being told that this was quite a good hotel and seeing the nice lobby, we had high hopes. Unfortunately, as soon as we got off the first floor things went downhill. The room was in fairly bad condition. The TV was high up and no remote was provided, the luggage that we had stored at the front desk disappeared for a while, the bathroom door did not close and the carpet was filthy. Also, the view out the window was genuinely unpleasant. The street that the hotel is on can also get incredibly congested, although it is close to several attractions. There were some pluses, however - the reception staff spoke English very well, and the breakfast was good, especially the media lunas (similar to croissants.) I would recommend this hotel for people who speak no Spanish at all or intend to stay in BA only a short time.

No good
from A TripAdvisor Member
The condition of the place is really disappointing and the only good things about the Hotel are location, staff and breakfast.
The rooms are old and dirty, there is no air conditioning or air ventilation, the corridors and carpet are in really bad shape. The bathroom was in bad condition also. It was so awful that I left the second day.
I would recommend it only for someone in a low budget, and even so, there must be better places in the area.

The Rochester Concept Hotel has been and is still now under major remodelling duties, which will be totally completed for next March. Rooms have been completely renovated, as the pictures shown in our website. All of them have A/C systems. Carpets were taken out from rooms and were kept in corridors.

Don't recommend this hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Booked this hotel for 2 nights for $53/night plus tax. It is in a good location, walking distance to many things.
Room is very small, I was supposed to get a King bed but they only had 2 twins that couldn't be put together as one bed either.
TV was tiny 12" TV, no alarm clock, no hair dryer, no iron, and NO SAFE.
Good thing was no carpet (had imitation wood floors), otherwise carpet would have been nasty. Towels were clean and bathroom was clean. Plenty of hotwater as well.
Wallpaper was stained and peeling. Overall, this hotel is not a 3 star but more like a 2 star and it not worth the price. Better if you can get it for cheaper price or pay a bit more elsewhere.
There are many other hotels in the area and taxi fares were about $5 Argentina Pesos to get around anywhere in the Recoletti area.

Horrible!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We got this hotel as part of a airline package weekend to Buenos Aires. The reviews I read didn't make it seem too bad but unfortunately we were really disappointed. Had we not had been so excited about visiting Buenos Aires for the first time, this hotel could have ruined our weekend.
I should start by saying that the hotel is in an excellent location, right in the heart of Bs As, about a block from the main pedestrian shopping area. From the outside it also looks very impressive. The lobby is modern, with marble and brass, and the reception staff are extremely friendly.
However it all went downhill when we saw the room (number 749 for reference!). As soon as we stepped out of the lift it looked like a different hotel. The corridors are gloomy and worn, with a filthy carpet and paper hanging off the walls. When we were shown to our room our hearts sank. It was very small and claustrophobic, shabby and dirty. The bed dipped visibly in the middle (and gave us both backache over the weekend), the paper was hanging off every single wall, the pink floral bed cover was faded and tatty, and there was mould underneath the window and on the ceiling (and not just a little bit but huge patches!). The carpet was so dirty we didn't dare walk on it barefoot.
The bathroom was a bit better and cleaner, but again everything in it was worn and needed repair. The water leaked out of the drain on the floor, the mirrored cabinet door was hanging off, and the toilet flush was temperamental. There are no hairdriers.
Normally I would complain and ask to change rooms but the other rooms we saw looked just as bad. The whole hotel seems to need a complete overhaul. We tried to make light of it, on the grounds that you don't go to Buenos Aires to sleep!
We did make the buffet breakfast though as I'd read the review that said it was really good but I think they must have changed it since then. The breakfast it served from 6:30-10:30am but if you get there at any time from 10am onwards, don't expect anything to be left. We went at 10:05am and we offered ham and cheese, a few hard bread rolls and cereals. The staff however were really sweet and when we asked them if they by any chance had anything else left in the kitchen, they went to a lot of effort to find us some left-over croissants.
In summary, there are only 2 good things about this hotel: location and staff. Otherwise, unless you really plan on not being in the room for more than 10 minutes over the weekend, I would try and avoid this hotel if possible.
Very good hotel
from Bryan_m36
I enjoyed my stay in Buenos Aires. Hyde Park is a good hotel in the centre with many landmarks within walking distance. The hotel can reserve also tours. The rooms are good, clean. Big bathroom. The price i very good. Around $70 incl. tax The breakfast is also good. Especially the croissants which they call here Media Luna (half moon). It s a buffet breakfast but no eggs. Overall a very nice hotel which i would recommend when somebody asks me where to stay in BA. If you have any questions you can e-mail me.

GOOD LOCATION BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT
from Hawk63
This hotel is an easy walking distance from Calle Florida and many of the must see sights. Desk personnel spoke English and seemed to try to help but in spite of daily promises we saw no real effort made to repair the airconditioning during the 3 nights and 4 days we spent baking in the hotel. The room was clean although seedy and worn with very tired old beds. Breakfast was a highlight, a delicious all inclusive buffet.

Nice hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed 5 nights at the Hyde Park hotel in Bs Aires, in March 2003. The size of the bedrooms are ok, they have nice beds, good closets, nice bathrooms, and the staff was very friendly. We usually took breakfast every day, and it was very good, they have fruits, milk, yogurts, juices, cheeses, ham, bread, "facturas"-sweet cakes--, coffee, everything. It is a good hotel.
