Good location, nice room, helpful staff.
Very nice location, a short walk from Fisherman's Wharf. We had a 2 bed room, average size. Very clean. Got a good price online and would recommend it. Downside, the walk to the room from the lobby was long, and it was a crowded hotel. Ate at Knuckles at the hotel. Not the best food. Hollywood Cafe across the street was much better. Tip, bottled water is cheap at Cost Plus, across the street!
If you want to be close to the tourist activities of San Francisco, this is a good choice.
OK hotel, tacky area
Disapponted with Fisherman's wharf area as it was very down market.
Hotel was OK, however A/C was noisy the only restaurant was "Knuckles" which is more like a diner. My wife and I expected a decent place to eat from this hotel chain.
Seemd to have to wait for ever for a lift and there are no stairs available for guests.
We had to travel to Stanford University and stayed at Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf for 3 nights. Well, I must say that the people were extremely helpful and did their best to make us feel at home. The room was big (2 double beds, 2 tables and 4 chairs, full big bathroom) and clean. We honestly enjoyed our stay and don't regret at all our stay at Hyatt. They also have a sauna, exercise room , jaccuzi, and a swimming pool on either the 3rd or 4th floor. We liked the tiny sauna and tiny jaccuzi. Unfortunately, they didn't have a coffee maker in the room, but they offer a free coffee on the 4th floor between 7:30 and 9:00, I guess. I must also mention that there was no refrigerator, which we frankly missed, for whatever reason. Overall, a good hotel, but perhaps a little pricy if you pay the full room rate. Try to get a discount somehow, perhaps using a reputable online business. Good luck with your stay and try to enjoy San Francisco, the dramatic Golden Gate Bridge and the Cables Cars while there.
We stayed at the Hyatt Fisherman's Wharf over Valentine's weekend, after I won an Ebay Auction offering a weekend in San Francisco including this hotel stay. Although, after having been there, I would probably prefer to stay in the shopping district, this hotel was very nice, clean and provided friendly service. It is very convenient to the tourist attractions at Fisherman's wharf, and the trolley stop to go to other parts of the city.
Great Area-Even Better Hotel
My family and I stayed 7 nights in this wonderful hotel. The staff was very friendly and helped us navigate our way through the city and all of the points of interest. The housekeeping department was very efficent and nice. The reception area was nicely appointed and the staff very quick and helpful. We did enjoy the sports bar as well. When you travel with children, you often do not use the hotel restaurant because of prices and your kids making a mess and being loud. However, this was the perfect place. The kids had choices like chicken nuggests or mac and cheese, while my wife and I could have a steak or a nice salad. Overall, a great hotel, reasonably priced (other Hyatts in SF were much more expensive) and a great time! I would definitely go back.
I agree w/ previous comments about Fisher. Wharf being the tackiest tourist trap. This Hyatt is just a couple of blocks away from Pier 39 (an absolute zoo of people) and Ghirardelli Plaza (wait in long lines to pay big bucks to buy anything from its famous store) along Hotel row next a Marriott and across from a huge Holiday Inn. Don't come in a car (parking is $32/ night) best to use a Muni Pass (buses/trolleys run every 5-10 minutes even on X-mas Day) or a Airport Shuttle Service ($13PP). The Day Concierge was excellent for giving bus directions to all locations. Several of the the front desk staff was UNhelpful and downright Argumentative when asked for a late checkout even though I brought it up on our first of four nights stay because of a late flight out. The lobby has a great lower level w/ a huge fountain, huge crackling fireplace and lots of places to sit and stretch your legs after walking all day. On the other side of the lobby is "Knucles" their restaurant, good sandwiches, nice decor for a sports bar, service was really slow (but it was X-mas night and the place was packed, probably because it was one of the few places open for dinner). In their inner courtyard (with people watching from their windows) they have a nice rectangular but shallow pool and a decent spa. Never had towels though so we kept having to call and have someone come within 5-10 minutes w/ a stack. The room was good, cozy and comfortable, not exactly Hyatt standards but this location is for tired tourists who don't spend too much time at the hotel. There is another tall Hyatt on the Embarcadero/ Financial district side which is probably up to H standards further away from the touristy side. The problem w/ the financial district it is closer to Civic Center/ Union Plaza, but that is where all the homeless the winos and the druggies congregate in large #'s, a pretty sad site which I remember from previous trips. The city isn't making any real effort to get them off the streets but this is liberal SF so they probably think it adds to the ambiance!
OK hotel in a tacky, touristy location
Either you love Fisherman's Wharf or you hate it. I'm in the latter camp: I find it hideous, overpriced, tacky -- the armpit of San Francisco. I had to stay here at the Hyatt on business, and it's not a horrible hotel, but nothing special either. The staff at reception seem a bit clueless and not terribly courteous. Bell staff and housekeeping staff, however, were both efficient and pleasant. The hotel has only one dining option, a sports bar that's unremarkable and overpriced, but probably no worse than most dining options in the immediate neighborhood.
We stayed here through priceline and we loved it. Not just because we got the room at a great bargain price, but because of the location and decor. The rooms were very clean and the bathrooms were spotless. The hallways were decorated with black and white photos of the city! They were amazing. We did not use the pool or the breakfast buffet, but we did eat at a restaurant right down the street that had great pancakes! You cannot match the location of this hotel. It is literally steps away from everywhere. We did not use valet parking. First, because we were there on a weekend, we found free parking on the street. But, if you do have to park, there are parking garages right around that area for $20/night. That could save you a lot of money, considering the Hyatt charges $36/night. I don't remember the name of the place, but it was 1 or 2 streets down towards the Wharf in conparison to where the Hyatt is situated. Look around, you'll find it.
First of all, I have to give my opinion that Fisherman's Wharf area is the place to stay if you're in SF on vacation. My brother's family recommended that to me, and he was right. Also, this Hyatt, although a little old, was great! Our rooms were spacious and comfortable - and we could look out our window and see the cable car stop. That was great, because we could judge when we wanted to go for a ride based on how long the line was! Also, there was a musician at the cable car station serenading us from time to time - very nice in the afternoon or early evening! Although the weather was a little cool, we really enjoyed the outdoor heated pool and jacuzzi (on the roof) . In fact, they have phones by the pool, so we ordered room service and had a great meal and strawberry daquiris at the nice tables. What luxury! One more thing, the breakfast buffet was very good, and definitely worth the convenience!
I stayed at the Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf because I was attending a conference there. Perhaps because it caters primarily to tourists rather than business people, this Hyatt does not really provide adequate business services. Packages and faxes that were sent to my colleagues were mysteriously lost or delayed in the process of being logged in. I did not receive a voice mail meant for me, but I did receive a voice mail meant for another guest. Front desk personnel often seemed confused, and sometimes were less than welcoming or helpful. When I checked out of the hotel, I was neither thanked nor asked if I had enjoyed my stay. (Perhaps they knew what the answer would be!) I will say, though, that the bell staff and housekeeping staff were both courteous and efficient. The rooms are average in size and decor; most rooms have no views to speak of. The hotel's one restaurant is a sports bar. For better food, head to the Cafe Pescatore in the Tuscan Inn, a block away. (In fact, I'd recommend staying at the Tuscan Inn instead of the Hyatt, if you must stay in touristy and tacky Fisherman's Wharf at all.) For breakfast, you might want to walk to Boudin Bakery, which has several locations in the neighborhood, or the Eagle Cafe on Pier 39. Skip the Hyatt's overpriced and mediocre breakfast.
