What a fun day! This morning Jaimie, Ruby, Chrissy and I drove to Chicago. It's about a two-hour drive from Normal. At first we talked about taking the train. Too expensive. Then we talked about driving to one of the suburbs and parking, then taking the commuter train. Still too expensive. So we figured we would just park in a lot and pay the parking fee - we figured on about $25 for the day. In the meantime, Ruby is texting her friend Marc in LA who used to live and work ...

Second day. Woke up at 3am but put my sleep audiobook on and managed to get back to sleep until 7. Had a lazy morning getting ready then headed out at about 10 for some brunch, we stopped off at The Corner Bakery and both had paninis. Following that we headed down to the architectural boat tour which lasted about an hour - hour and a half. I took way too many photos of buildings but this city is just ...

We then headed off to the nearby Aquarium which has not only interesting species of fish but also sea lions, seal, ducks and - believe it or not - Beluga Whales. ...

... Lincoln Hotel for a roof top drink. A wonderful view of the city and Lake Michigan. Too cold to stay outside so retire inside. David arrives as scheduled and we move downstairs to Perennial Virant 1800 N Lincoln which was fabulous. A restaurant where staff are knowledgable and understand food . All local products with an emphasis on seasonal flavours and things preserved and pickled. David is a local and knows which is a treat! We are first timers so there are many ...

Oak Park and Frank Lloyd Wright

... by Antoni Gaudi - hidden in a rambling garden, with curved rooflines reminiscent of a scallop shell. Few gardens in Oak Park have solid fences, those that exist seem to be around swimming pools so may be a mandatory requirement. The lack of fences made sticky-beaking much easier! We started our walking tour proper at Frank Lloyd Wright's studio and home, then wandered the two or three adjoining blocks reading notes as we came to each home that he had designed. In all, we saw ...
