Korea - half way through

For summer vacation (back in August this is...) our Korean friends took us to their hometown in central Korea. It was so nice to get out of the city. We were staying at our friends Grandparents house who had never seen a foreigner before. We had a great three days seeing the sites, temples - SKY WITHOUT POLLUTION and swimming. On our last night all the family arrived and we had a typical Korean celebration with Korean BBQ and lots of Soju. The trip had its frustrating moments, as all the men o...

1st night

Hi all. Anyo haseo!! A quiet flight to Seoul, the air-hostesses were very attentive to our needs, it seemed at times as though we had one steward per person, there were so many on board. Alex D. notched up 9 cans of coke and the food was 'not too bad' - after a lengthy flight to Seoul, punctuated by card games, some Maths tutorials (truth!), and watching the film 'Juno', we touched down at Incheon at 7pm local time. Dave Risteski and Hans Leung proved to be the seasoned travellers, getting en...

13 April Well, it was a little like a dream; I was on the plane to Egypt. The plane was a 777-200 with a 2-5-2 (seating plan) with us on the right hand window side. Alex and I (sitting) in front with Janine and Mikayla behind us. I could not believe that I was finally getting there, with only a night stop-over in Seoul or correctly Incheon. I was nervous at the airport, all that luggage and stuff. Will have to settle down and get back into the swing of things. Also need to relax. We were lucky...

Many hands make light work

Korea is amazing... or maybe it's the 5 star hotel they've put me it. So, to my surprise, but not utter disappointment, I'm not actually in Seoul. South Korea's airport is actually on it's own island called Incheon. Everything is new here, when I first looked out the window of the plane I noticed that everything looks like it's under construction. There's no massive skyscrapers or hundreds of houses compressed together. There's lots of space everywhere. The guy next to me pointed out this ama...

Overnight stopover in Seoul

Flew over to Seoul today, and the flight was GREAT. Managed to convince the flight hostesses that I needed two of each meal, and to try all the kinds of Korean beer they had on offer. I'm a huge fan of Korean beer, but not so much as far as seaweed soup goes.

Once I jumped off the plane I headed over to the Korean Air service desk. There they let me know where I'd be staying overnight... the Hyatt. I'd seen a promo of the hotel on the plane, and it looked amazing. I was sure I'd get a ...

Travelling to Seoul

Mandi: Gray, as predicted, managed to pack about 4 tonnes of stuff into our two backpacks - and mine weighs only 10 kg (without its little daypack containing the giant File of Useful Stuff and a couple of phrasebooks which probably brings it up to the 14 kg I carried quite happily in the National Park.) We have got an extra, small case containing presents which we will hopefully get rid of quite early and can then fill up with other exciting stuff. Goodie - I was wondering where my shopping w...

Auckland to Korea

First night en route to Europe, staying in the very lovely Hyatt close to Incheon Airport, and at Korean Air's expense. Excellent room, facilities and meals.

Seoul, Korea - My first country & stopover

August 6th 2008 about 10:10pm (Korean Time which is an hour behind Australia) So tonight is the first night on my trip, I'm currently staying at the Hyatt Incheon. It's a beautiful room, photos 1-8 are taken of my room and it's view of the airport. One thing I have just noticed is my feet are swollen up and sore. Hopefully this will pass when I have a sleep overnight. You wouldn't think that going on a flight for 10 hours could be so gruelly on your body. Especially when Baz and I do 10 hour ...

... the need to support the weak, as socialism does, when able to be done in a productive manner, is a measure of a strong society. A society that realizes that not all were born equal, yet all are still able to contribute in some way shape or form without being exploited, such as how capitalism does with cheap labor, is truly on the path to equality, regardless of genetics, race, social class or any other label that ...
