... of doll houses. It was quite amazing! I thought I would be somewhat bored by all the cars. Nothing bored me. And, I, for some reason, had thought it would be kind of greasy. You know, cars! No, instead, it was an enormously fancy museum, with chandeliers, and parquet floors! I was delightedly surprised!
As for Greenfield, again, I was nonplussed! As an inventor, Ford was interested in other inventors and inventions. He had ...
... he and Carmen really did look after us. Carmen remembered well how much she had enjoyed her day out shopping with Janet while I'd gone off doing car stuff with Jerry.
But I couldn't stay long, I had to get to Detroit that afternoon. Which is also why there's not many pics of the journey across the lush green of farmland Michigan.
But eventually ...
... could not find parking. There is a nice parking lot next to the museum but it belongs to a funeral home and was closed because a funeral was in progress. We gave up and headed for the hotel.
No pictures today. I think Mary has a couple of pictures.
We hadn't planned, really, to go to see Motown, ...
Visited the Henry Ford Museum and Rouge Car Plant today in Dearborn which is on the outskirts of Detroit. The heart of the American car industry. An amazing experience and would recommend it to everyone who has a chance to do it. The interesting thing about this plant is that it still uses 'real people' to do the assembling, not like Asia and Australia where robots are used. The Rouge plant's ...
... handles. Once again, on the drive in the car I listened to music and read some more books on the Nook. Then we got to the hotel.
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the old forms of transportation on the streets. The costumed characters were a special treat. Of course the teacher in me thought how cool it would be for kids to visit. We did see some summer camps going on for kids. Too bad it's so far from home!

Historical Traveler Reviews Hyatt Regency Dearborn
Checked in for one night in late March to take the kids over to the Henry Ford Museum. They have tickets available at the hotel for this attraction which is within a mile of the hotel.
Me, my dad and my 2 uncles stayed at the Hyatt Rgency Dearborn from June 18th-June 20th 2004. Just by the look of it, I could tell it was gonna be a great hotel. This place is luxury at it's finest (The staff wear UNIFORMS!!). It was orginally built in 1978 and was remodeled in 2000. The only part that wasn't was the pool area (It still has orange, yellow, blue, and green colored fake skylights on the ceiling!!) But since I like 70's decor and I thought they looked nice, I didn't mind at all. The hotel is located directly across from the Fairlane Mall, and very close to The Henry Ford. The breakfast was very nice, the fitness room and pool were very peaceful. The staff was kind too. Going up to the 14th floor (which you need a card to get to, since it's where all the famous people stay) you can look out the big windows and see the detroit skyline far in the distance. I didn't get a chance to see the bar on the top, since you had to be 21 or older to get in. The whole place was abuzz with WW2 veterans while we were there, since they were having some kind of convention there. All in all though, it was nice, very clean, and well worth the money. My only complaint is, the smoking in the lobby. Where we live (New York) smoking is not allowed in public places, so I'm not quite used to that. That's ok, though. The fans seem to waff it away.
In DTW for Ryder Cup weekend and the Hyatt was hoppin'! Excellent service from valet to check-in. Room was of good size with standard bath amenities. One aggravation, on a beautiful fall weekend windows did not open. Bath was average with adequate water pressure; only a light pattern available on shower. Beds were a tad soft and not "heavenly"; do your sit ups. 70's Hyatt refurbished and above adequate. Rooms were above average, not great, but I will say this hotel appeared to be very well managed with excellent staff response.
Stayed at the Hyatt this past Saturday night after attending a nearby wedding. We were looking for a nice romantic room., but once in the room it spelled business travellers room.
I stay at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn 3 nights a week, each week since March 2004. I enjoy my stays and like the hotel.
Great for business travelers.
I stayed at this hotel for 4 days for a conference and enjoyed my stay. The wait staff was good and housekeeping service was excellent. I wish that the Rotunda was open more than just friday and Saturday nights. Overall, its was a good stay.
Ah, I always love staying in nice hotels in my own hometown: instead of service you get attitude. Who trains these people, the engineers at Ford's R&D? Consistently poor service (well, perhaps, clueless service would be more accurate) and only moderately welcoming decor. Though the hotel was refurbished in the last few years, it is beginning, again, to show serious signs of wear and tear and inadequate cleaning. And the pool area was never updated- gotta love the orange, brown, and blue "skylights" - same stuff that was there when I was in high school over 20 years ago.
Dear Hyatt, We wanted to share with you and your staff our wonderful experience in your restaurant Guilio's. We have heard in the past how wonderful the food was there but never had taken the opportunity to actually try your brunch until this past Sunday. My husband's boss came in from out of town and we wanted to take him out for a brunch and thought we would try your brunch. What an experience. Beside the food being awesome, the service was outstanding. Our server, Foysal, had surpassed all other servers we have ever met. He was very accommodating with us all. There was five of us and we had several questions about the hotel and the area that surrounds the hotel and he took the time to explain to all of us what we were inquiring about. We were amazed with the quality of service we received during brunch. Foysal brought our eating experience too a different level then we have ever experience and now we know we will be coming back for your brunch and bringing all my husbands business partners too your Sunday Brunch and only hope that Foysal will be working because we would request his exceptional hospitality. Thank you very much and please inform Foysal that we appreciated his awesome hospitality and great personality. He seemed to be so professional and polite. We just wanted to take the time to let you know about our experience. Sincerely yours. Terri Gamann
I just got back from a stay at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn this weekend.
Good for business in the area
Efficient, friendly staff. Typical Hyatt decor. Very convenient to area businesses, especially Ford Motor Co.
