I was lucky enough to talk to an ex-pat of Dubai before I came out. He warned me nobody walks, taxi everywhere. There must have been thousands of people waiting on the side of the road, some walking amounts the gridlocked traffic to try get someone to give them a lift. The metro stations we passed were queued for miles out of the doors. We were so lucky to have found our taxi! On New Year's Day we had pre booked a trip up the Burj Kalifah which is the tallest building in the world. We had a reserved time but still had to queue for around ...

The malls here are a shoppers wet dream, but insanely ridiculous, giant rabbit warrens, that even come with there own apps, so you don't get lost inside them. If you don't pay any attention to your surroundings, your be lost in a few minutes. The Malls have other attractions as well....The Emirates mall for example has its own Ski Slope... -2 degrees inside while 40 degrees outside, Only in Dubai.....

... for the desert safari. Unlike the others, this was only a 6 person Toyota Land Cruiser. When I got in and saw the roll bars, I knew I was in for a fun ride. I, of course, got the conversation going in the vehicle, and once again, I was 1 American surrounded by Aussies. They were really nice though, and we ended up sticking together most of the night. One guy, Graham, was without his wife, so he and I ended up being each other's photographer as the evening wore on.
