... the A/C off. They as they were supposed to be working on their oral summary, there seemed to be something going on in the class. I asked what was going on and one of the boys tattled and said that one of the boys used the remote control to the air conditioner and turned it off. I was almost fuming at this point. The class had not behaved the whole time as it was and now this kid was messing with things he shouldn't be. I wanted to send him out and then one of ...

The first few days in Daegu

... and purchased a ticket and got on the train. A really nice girl was sitting by me. She helped me put my huge bags in the storage on top. I looked at the instructions again, still really confused. Then I found a second paper and on it was a copy of my train ticket. It was for a later train. So, then I was angry that I wasted money, but happy that I could expect the school to pick me up at the time that the ticket in the folder said I would arrive. So, I read a book and ...

Day 13- Parting with and Old Friend

This weekend I went a visited a long time friend of my Brother and I up in Daegu. His name is Roy. Even though he is the age of my brother and when we were young I use to hang out with his younger brother Randy more often, we still have become good friends. This weekend was great. For one, I got to get a way from my mother. I love her, but still. And for ...

... parks and having a closer look. It really was quite warm at this point, so I was quite content to take it easy and try to get some colour into my ghostly complexion. I'm not sure whether it worked or not... As always, the weekend soon raced towards its conclusion, but getting out of Nowon for a couple of days had been a real tonic. Now I know what makes me happy, I will be off on my travels a lot more frequently in the coming weeks and months...

Daegu Parks!

... taxi to the entrance of Mt. Apsam and walked and walked up the mountain base to where we could catch a cable car to the top. It was a spectacular view from both the cable car and the top of the mountain. I knew Daegu was a big city, but to see it from this vantage point was awesome. After we descended we caught another taxi (by the way they are actually cheap, most places can be accessed with only about 2500 to 3000 won which is ...

Return to Yi-Gok Middle School!

Today I was lucky and I had the day off, because of Chuseok. So I decided to go back to Yi-Gok and see all my old teachers and students. I was a bit nervous about going back. I didnt know how I would be received, if they'd remember me, if I'd feel odd going back! It turned out I didnt need to worry. As I walked up to the school gates everything looked the same. Nothing had changed, except me! I walked up the stairs (sweaty terribly, it was so hot!), and ...

28 Years Later

... then I would see the silhouette of the old man, treading along and then dissolving into darkness. Soon I came across an overlook of the farm village which had seemed to be so far. Tiny lanterns winked and shifted as though adrift. Above the sky, which was washes of Indigo, seemed to pale with every passing minute... and soon twilight. Happening across another overlook Daegu was awash in color. It was absolutely beautiful, so I sat for a moment to enjoy it.

My first weekend.

... to venture over to the tourist information booth at Daegu station where I grabbed a map of the downtown area. I went into the lotte plaza, which is basically like a mall that goes up, up and up, and walked around a bit; went all the way to the top but didn't find anything too interesting, so I left. At this point, literally having nothing better to do, although I possessed absolutely no knowledge of its location except for a ...

Korea makes me laugh!!

... his book and finally came out with 'Board and Lodge'. For god's sake!! We were talking about his friends staying at his for one night and he wasn't satisfied with Eat and Sleep. He kept saying "yes yes board and lodge. they board and lodge with me". So for my amusement I made up lots of sentences for him to use board and lodge since he wasn't satisfied with eat and sleep. He has also said to me "Liar. She is liar. No - she is worse. Worse than liar UH!?" I'm like "I dunno? What ...
