For $22 per person we are on a 2 day tour of the Mekong River Delta. The bus is a UN of people: Spain, Israel, Australia, UK, Poland, Netherlands, Belgium. We're the only 2 from the US...and we haven't seen many people from the US around. It's a 2 hour bus ride out to the Mekong an Ben Tra and then we board a couple of small motor boats to cruise down the river past tons of large, moored fishing boats (all wood) and floating fish farms. Apparently the sea bass export biz is down because they ...
Can Tho, Vietnam laurihart... in particular. Rather than returning along the Mekong we headed through a maze of river ways surrounding the countryside. It was really interesting just to see all the rural communities going about their everyday jobs, one house had karaoke blaring at 10 am with a few of the locals gathered, all having a great time.

It was a top day but after 8 hours of sitting on a plank I was glad to stretch the legs and be back on dry land.
Can Tho, Vietnam thebirds... seats but the view was great. What a way to cross a border! Along the way there was a whole school on the bank of the river, watching the kids row dragon boats. Everyone is so friendly and always waving to the boats, especially the kids.

We got off the boat about an ''hour'' from Phnom Penh and then travelled by road in a tight mini-van but we got there in the end, but it took more like 2.5 hours because of traffic.

Can Tho, Vietnam kimandluke... spending the night on the boat we were up early in the morning for our breakfast on the deck and then on to check out Cai Rang floating market. To identify what each boat is selling you need to look at the pole. Some poles just have bananas, some pineapple and some were full blown green grocers. Lan bought us a pineapple from a boat with about 10,000 pineapples on it.

Our driver was waiting at the dock in Cai Rang to take us to Chau Doc, we should have been getting ...
Sa Ðéc, Ðồng Tháp, Vietnam theharrisons... t fool me!) We walked to the proper office but the 5pm bus was full but managed to get on the 6pm so arrived in Can Tho around 9. We met an American guy called Brook on the bus who we spoke to all the way, he was a pilot and had taken a year out to go traveling around the world. We arrived at the bus station and were hassled by moto drivers who wanted to charge ...
Can Tho, Vietnam alyson.morgan... y media.

Vinh Long, Vietnam vera_und_alex... is then mixed with coconut milk, sugar and ginger to make sweet rice crispy cakes. We sat and had endless little cups of Vietnamese green tea and sampled the various sweets produced; dried sugared ginger, dried coconut, sesame and peanut brittle. We bought some goodies and hopped on bikes and followed the guide on a 20 minute cycle to our lunch stop.

The restaurant was a stunning old Indochinese villa set in the jungle, Le Longanier, we ...
Sa Ðéc, Ã'á»"ng Tháp, Vietnam emmaandpaul... off in a small town for one day and took a boat up the little canals off the river. Next we went on to the main town in the region Can Tho where we motorbiked out to the nearby floating markets and then boated back amongst the floating stalls selling fruit and Pho.
Can Tho, Vietnam offtherails... interesting with smaller boats where all the boats floated in a cluster and you had to pull yourself though the middle with just a paddle. Our boat driver took a pineapple he had bought earlier. After a bit of slicing and dicing he presented it to us like two lollypops on sticks. The sticks being the long stem that were left on the pineapple. I did try a couple of local 'doughnuts' also, but they were certainly nothing to write home about! We left the main waterway and ...
