... an hour- we checked just before we left, saying we hope that the sun will burn away the clouds as it did yesterday. He did not tell us that we could have caught the bus up the hill. So we walked for an hour of which half of it was climbing up a steep hill on a winding road. ( that's all I am going to say). ... lots of steps if you wanted to get to some hotels. The town is situated on a narrow ledge, wedged between the mountain and the lake. We walked to the tiny square with the trinity plinth ( meaning the town survived the plague) found the water fall that tumbles through the town, looked at a few touristy shops( when the rain got heavier) trying on tourist Austrian hats. ... Haus Am See'. After settling into our room, it was 2 pm we were told they have no restaurant, only serve breakfast. We had to walk further into the village that was spread out. We walked along the lake, then walked following the Traun ( river) up to the road that takes you to Hallstatt by car. We had a look at Winkel, just a group of houses, and found a cafe. The cafe was run but a young family with two small children who were as cute as buttons. We had a coffee then waked ...

... itinerary, Lake Altaussee. It was a rather small and isolated lake. I almost gave up on going before I coaxed the lazy Shirley away. I decided to walk there (roughly 7km), and then catch the bus back to Bad Aussee train station in time for the midday train to Bad Ischl. It was a good enough plan to get me moving.
