Plaza de Galicia 2 Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands, 15706, 981-585800
... have been gathering for centuries to visit the tomb of St James. The Cathedral itself was magnificent, and the surrounding buildings where also very impressive. Shopping in the narrow flag stoned streets was a delight. We stayed at were given refreshments in a former hospital dating from around 1513 which is a listed building and is now a first class hotel. It was all very grand.
Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands mickinwhitby... the city which contains all the old buildings and churches is pedestrianised and huddles round the grand cathedral. The Cathedral is vast and very ornate. The guide books say that is best seen in the rain so that all the lichens and mosses are highlighted. The weather duly obliged!

The car has decided to have a sick day and has gone to the Ford dealer to recuperate! We collect it tonight and move on to Portugal in the morning.
Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands mikeandsuecuffA slow morning saw us arrive in A caruna around 2:30p for a quick tour. A beautiful city where we had an excellent lunch (more kids running through the streets while we devoured raciones and wine. Yum!!) A 6ish departure for our long drive to Llanes in Astoria. We finally ...
A Coruña, Galicia, Spain kramertown... the "Um, are you planning to sleep tonight" comment.

And excellent dinner of seafood paella while the kids ran around was followed by a drunken night of dancing with the locals. Hillariuosly fun until 3am. Seriously.

A Coruña, Galicia, Spain kramertown... including real "pilgrims") we were back on the road to A Caruna where Ev had found a seaside campground. Back on Spanish time we had an delightful meal of Spanish tortilla (potato omlette) around 9:30 and the kids were in bed by 10:45. Yikes!!

A Coruña, Galicia, Spain kramertown... noticed I wasn’t singing. Not only am I a wimp… I am ashamed of myself. I felt my cheeks going all red.

During Outlaw Pete I get my act together again, but after that he asks if we can feel The Spirit… and my cheeks are red again: I have not yet found the best you tube footage for this song… but Our Man was one gigantic chunk of sexiness there. Ladies Thread Material I’m telling you! Me and Crazy Janey were makin ...
Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands mariatillemaI have never visited a place or lived in a city that has more musical options than Santiago. There is ALWAYS some kind of performance or concert going on. Oftentimes, you are running back and forth between more than one trying to decide which you'd prefer. The musicians who play on the side of the streets are fantastic, those who play in the plazas in a more formal way stay after and talk ...
Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands jennmwarren... there´s a lot of other activities going on, so maybe I can come back later to give some workshops (for information about Rhythms of Resistance: http://www.rhythms-of-resistance.org/ ) So I´m enjoying myself... Still my plans what to do next are really unclear... Maybe I will follow the pelgrimsroute to France for a while and visit an anarchist community near Leon or maybe I will go to Madrid or Ourense.... You will here about it in the future!
Santiago de Compostela, Spain holadiyo... Then he proceeds to bring out the bottle of wine and huge plate of Tapas. We had empanadas, Tortillas Españoles, all kinds of fantastic stuff. Then we ordered a plate of mussels and calamari (my dad´s favorite). That one bottle of wine turned out to be five bottles of wine, and we got it all for very cheap. Really excellent. It was the four of us out eating, and then their friend Meredith also came and joined us out. After dinner was over (around ...
Santiago de Compostela, Spain ckodiak... and direct to the Albergue and book in before considering alternative digs. We end up on the 2nd plano, in a 30 bed dorm, with the sloping ceiling almost touching the bed, men's toilets on the floor below, central air well with boot storage grille floor, and no hot water till late. Rest a while then out to look at the cathedral, up the hill to the edge of town, back to the cafe near the albergue for a snack, then down town to internet. Check out the rather ...
