Hi All
Sitting in a restaurant waiting for our pizzas - we are all done with bocadillos - dry, dry bread with slices of cheese and dried out ham. Sorry to say I forgot my hat two nights ago but we ended up at a albergue off the track which was a piece of heaven. The bunk beds which I have a permanent bruise on the top of my head from, were quite comfortable, complete with sheets and ...
... to enjoy the towns more. Last night we stayed in Sarria - a bigger town and Mary and i did some shopping which was fun - didn´t buy anything heavy though. Sara and Carl are out to buy some groceries to make supper tonight as there is a fairly well equipped kitchen to cook in. - Thoughts from Shirley.
Mary wants to tell you - I'm trying to hold on to every moment of this surreal experince with ...
... literately no room at the inn.....or to be correct ' - any of the albergues. therefore, we did ask around. some lady was willing to give us shelter for a king´s ransom ' so we opted to taxi it to the next larger town...some 20km.... what´s a group gonna do with no shelter? innovation my friends....
Tríacastela, Galicia, Spain camino_2009I went with Stee and my grandmother to Lugo, a town about 50 miles from A Coruña. The old town of Lugo is surrounded by a Roman wall. Within the walled part of the town are narrow streets and old buildings.
In the late afternoon we returned to A Coruña and departed for Vigo early in the evening.
... sandwiches in his bar-restaurant. Glad to get up early and walk today.
Day 30 - Sunday, July 19 Ventas de Naron - Melide 29.9 km (18.7mi)
Mixed path today, most along the road and maybe 40% on nice dirt path through the countryside. Melide has a large alburgue (130 beds) and we waited 1 hour to check in. But after a shower and washing our clothes we went and ate pulpo a la gallega ...
... didn't try this out last time because frankly we just wanted to get out. Today we were reminded of why, when we got to Santiago, we just wanted to get out. This last leg of The Camino is a bit of a nightmare in terms of the mass of people moving along the road, both on foot and bicycle. While it was busy in 2001 (and we got fed up of the competition and mad dash for refugios in the last few days) neither of us remember it being THIS busy. So while our intention is to stay ...
Portomarin, Galicia, Spain and Canary Islands 50odd... was very hungry. We were served a plate of cured meats, done right here, as well as cheese, salad, peas with homemade chorizo sausage, french fries, roast chicken, and cheesecake for dessert. And more vino tinto. After dinner, Pepe said he had a surprise for us and pulled out a bottle of Pacharon - a liqueur made with anise and peppermint. Earlier, we had all signed cards for Aurora and Marisol (the owner), so after ...
Melide, Galicia, Spain lindalequesne... which was on this route) so that´s why I left this date. The festival was really interesting. There were several workshops (for example vegan cooking workshops and how to make your own toothpaste) and presentations (I went to one about ecovillages and living communities). Also there was a market with eco and bio products.. Really nice to buy some vegetables for my trip. The dinner in the ...
Sarria, Spain holadiyo... and wondered what had happened to her walking companion and fellow traveller, who had only to walk back to the path and follow the main road down to the Maragato village - ooh, about a minute and a half´s detour, at most. Angela had a lovely time wandering round the village, wondering if her trusty travelling companion had got lost, or was lying savaged in a ditch somewhere, or was nursing a broken ankle by the ...
