This is our last day in Valencia so we had a leisurely start to the day but then everyone in Spain does. Nothing opens until 10:00 or later. Many places close between about 3:30 and 5:00 pm and then reopen. They all tend to stay open till 10:00 pm which is about when the sun finally sets.

Spain and Portugal both have very different histories. These differences in history can be seen in their economy today. Portugal spent a large part of the twentieth century under the dictatorship of Salazar only to end in 1974. SO… In conclusion…
1) Fallas is a crazy festival technically starting February 23rd with La Crida and Mascletas, which go off every day between the 23rd and the 19th at 2pm. The festival's main days are between the 16th and the 19th of March.

... isn't fun? ;) Buenos Noches, M&E ***About the holiday: As far as I can tell the holiday had something to do with the three kings as those guys are EVERYWHERE! They are immortalized on cookies and as chocolates, they hang from balconies, they are on pizza commercials and there was a big parade in honor of them on Sunday.
