    A Gaudi day

We began the day at Sagrada Familia. A Cathedral designed by Gaudi in the 1880s and still being built. I think it is my favourite cathedral so far. Gaudi designed it based on nature so the columns begin thick at the bottom and then branch out at the top like trees and then there are sections hanging down like tree fronds. As the columns support the whole structure and not the walls he was able to design with more windows than traditionally ...

... various costumes (tellie tubbies, flinstones, super heros, Mario..etc.) and they all started cheering and clapping for us. Then one came and planted a big kiss on Evan’s cheek. They ...

Booked tickets to Parc Guell, a park developed by Gaudi for a wealthy industrialist called Guell who wanted an exclusive estate for well off families. Fortunately for Barcelona and the millions of tourists who come here, the estate was a failure and Guell's children donated the Park to the city. A whimsical but no less practical park with interesting open areas, beautiful sculptures and lovely walking paths. The walk up to ...

... scale the dormant volcano (for any mothers out there, it is DORMANT – no danger involved … until it erupts) and that was a good bit of exercise that we all needed. Stop two was a little hot springs created by the volcano, and I jumped out of a boat into the ocean for the first time ever! Stop three was dinner on some island that I can’t remember the name, and stop four was a front row view of the sunset. Santorini is famous for ...
