Today has been varied. I woke up very early again, just couldn't handle the sensory deprivation of my cheap hotel room. I've never been deprived of natural light for such an extended period before, and it's very disorientating, not something I'd recommend, although in very small doses, I'm sure it can be very beneficial. Sensory deprivation is the deliberate reduction or removal of stimuli from one or more of the senses. Simple devices such as blindfolds or hoods and earmuffs can cut off sigh...
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam cat_moonstoneMore Saigon ... We got back to the Huong Sen hotel at around 6pm on Monday night. Spending a day and a half in the Mekong Delta has been an incredible experience, and I feel very fortunate to have been here. In many ways, life is very different to mine: life is lived much more in the open air, walls supporting the roof rather than keeping the elements of life out. Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam cat_moonstoneThe first whole day in our new group we get a bus to take us to the Cu chi tunnels, about 90 minutes outside of Saigon. These tunnels were dug out by the Vietnamese and the Viet Kong during the war. They were used to frustrate the Americans. The terrain was very much jungle. They hugely frustrated the Americans, as the enemy would just seem to appear from no where and disappear just as easily. This area is now a living museum and has Vietnamese people demonstrating how they actually lived at ...

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam jasonandrhe... br>One of the days we did the Cu Chi tunnels tour where we drove about an hour away and saw the tunnels that the Vietnamese used in the war. It was pretty crazy to see how small the tunnels were and to see how they lived. We got to shoot machine guns too which was pretty insane. We had a lot of fun doing that, going to the War Remnants Museum (very interesting, sad, but also one-sided and propagandized ...

This is the main headquarters for a small religion that exists only in Vietnam and is essentially a combination of Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, and Christianity. We got to watch them hold a ceremony, which they do every six hours. It was a colorful and festive ceremony but I was glad we only stayed for a short while. I was much more interested in seeing the tunnels.

It was a long drive to the Cu Chi tunnels but it was well worth the wait. The area is strictly ...

Ready-made clothing for men and women is easily available for those ready to bargain, but visitors with more time than I make the smart choice to have any sort of clothing cut and tailor made in a day or two. The guidebook gives good tips on questions to ask and steps to take to ensure quality garments for low prices. I'd really recommend Hoi An to any visitor to ...
