So Monday morning we left Bamfield for the next big logging road trek through to Port Renfrew. Not so many "helpful hints and tips" from the passenger seat today - thank goodness, for Graeme's sake!
We knew we needed to head in the direction of Lake Cowichan and plotted our route on the map - well that would all be fine, if there were road …

One of the many, many, many, many, many things I particularly liked about the Rocky Mountaineer was that they make a decent pot of tea. It both looks and tastes like tea, and not dishwater. I wrote the word "many" too much there, and now it's doing that thing where it no longer looks like a word. Anyhow, another place in Canada where I found good tea was Victoria. Being named after a queen of England I was hoping it would have good tea but it was nice to ...

... about 35 minutes away on the far southern tip of Vancouver Island. We caught glimpses of bay between heavily wooded forests, and reached the bus station in down town soon after 1 PM. We soon discovered that the place I'd chosen for us to stay was a great choice, because not only was it only 150 metres up the road, but right next to the Victoria museum, IMAX theatre and Beacon Hill park, and only a couple hundred metres from the water front and all its attractions. The ...

... and northern tip of the huge beach it took us well over 2 hours. It is a nice spot, the narrow pine tree covered peninsula offering the wild surf and huge beach on the Pacific side with the tranquility and calmness of the 5 to 8 km wide Willapa Bay semi lagoon between the
peninsula and mainland attracting anglers and small craft owners like a magnet.

From there it was back on the US 101 up coast via South Bend, Raymond and Aberdeen to Hoquiam. There we ...
