As you might expect from diving in New Zealand it was pretty cold in the water but we had great gear and we managed two 1-hour dives easily. ... at Hicks Bay which is renowned for fishing. We pulled up around 11 am and set ourselves up on the end of the pier where, believe it or not, Lucy actually took a rod in her hands. I had already caught a little kahawai, New Zealands native fish and so handed the bait rod to Lucy. We were joined by a very lovely lady and her grandson who were out fishing for the day. All I needed was for the only people we know and trust in New Zealand to go off the edge in an attempt to save my family. She promised it was safe, and she said they did it all the time. These people here are not scared of anything! No way would I attempt to drive a car up there!!!
