... the others had great views of Black Woodpecker. We went back to the hotel for breakfast, and as we were getting out of the car a Black woodpecker flew over! After breakfast we headed to Roy's village, about 5 miles from Eger. We walked through woods by the village wine cellars, mostly disused, but overnight rain made the track impassable. Got up at 7.15 and went for buffet breakfast - scrambled egg, local sausage and eggy fried bread. Confused by tea selection and picked unpleasant spiced tea, so changed to coffee. We have discovered that our trips onto small towns always seem more authentic than our trips to the big cities. While you HAVE to visit the sites in the major cities, and we do love them, there's just something so much more personal about heading into a smaller, non-touristy town (or at least where there aren't as many tourists).
