Our next stop was Eger, a lovely little village about 2 hours out of Budapest. We spent the day wandering the beautiful little streets and enjoying the tranquility and small town atmosphere. Eger is loaded with yellow cathedrals and similarly bright houses. There are also several lovely town squares jam-packed with restaurants and boutiques. Our hosts, Aranka and Gyuszi, ...

And then, right after knocking the side mirror off a parked car on a narrow, one-way side street of Budapest, we found our salvation. The Hotel Palazzo Zichy, our oasis in Budapest, conveniently located right across the street from a Catholic Church. Thank The Lord! We are ...

... down and more like January-February numbers according to one shop owner we chatted to. Seems strange to be doing the work in the height of the summer peak season. Nevertheless, I'm sure it will vastly improve the town once it's all completed.

So instead of hanging in the main square, we stopped for a drink and gelato in the main pedestrianised street, Szechenyi utca, before climbing up to Eger fortress and walking around the castle ruins for stunning views of the ...
