Eger has turned out to be a little gem. Our apartment in the heart of the city centre by a stream was ideal. The only Turkish building left standing from the Turkish occupation, 1542 – 1697 is the minaret, so being up for a challenge we decided to climb to the top. ... The local wine ("Bull's Blood") was delicious, as well as our other dishes, Wild Boar Stew and Parmesan Crusted Chicken with Caesar Salad. Thank you Slovakia for the jagged mountains, friendly folk and bowls of hearty goulash, 'dakujem'. Passing the once communist outpost, we climb the barb wire fence as bullets flying past our heads, and we burst into Hungary!
