... the city to see except for the temple so saw what I wanted to see in one day. Got to taste the Soba noodles ( made from Buckwheat) but didn't try my hand at making them. Nagano is "famous" for Soba noodles - well it is a local speciality.

I am sure that there can be no unemployment in Japan. If you haven't got a job they make one for you or give you a "safety" job. On building sites, roadworks etc there ...

... first floor and in the second floor they raised silk worms. The roofs are made of matsuri grass which is a wetlands grass similar to pampas grass. The roofs last about 50 years before they have to be replaced. At that time the owner hires professional roofers to oversee the operation and then the whole village helps as well as volunteers from elsewhere. ... everything else was closed and the buildings weren't so very pretty. Still, we felt proud of ourselves for successfully negotiating the metro system.

The hotel's Japanese restaurant was full, so 3 of us, single ladies, had a very indifferent meal in their Chinese restaurant. Those who managed to get into the Japanese restaurant had an excellent, but at 80 each, a very pricy supper. At least ours didn't cost much.

... some of them don't have safety bars!  They move really fast as well...quite a challenge getting on and off, especially as they are so low too. We love Japan and every night we have a different dining experience...all really good. anyway there are many photos which tell the story of our week here. ...
