... The parade is accompanied by musicians in traditional Japanese costumes, quite an interesting and colorful event. The elephant made of paper is very large and being pulled by the boys with help of adults. We watch them parade around the Yubatake and go up the old, stone staircase to the Temple. We take a closer look at the Yubatake where the water gushes down day in day out, 4.000 liters of hot water per minute!
There is also a public footbath and we ...

... descend and after seeing threatening clouds it finally starts to rain. Kusatsu is located at about 1200 meters and there is a lot of greenery everywhere. The bus is as punctual as the train and departs on time to the minute. The drive has plenty of beautiful country side and snow capped alps. We one stop once at a rest stop for 15 minutes, which is enough to stretch the legs. The driver tells us ...

For the final day, we got up and had our normal breakfast. Sam laughed that the HP had been unopened the whole season and since Thomas arrived, we'd just finished the bottle!

We had a couple of hours to kill so decided to go sledging. Kids loved it although it nearly killed Sinead. Isabel and Thomas did some nice runs and there was a nice carved toboggan run. For the final run, Thomas decided to go to the top of the ...
