      ... with it's mother. Morning tea at Skukuza 9.45-10. Ate pear and muffin overlooking Sabie river, no Elephants today. Lots of Cape Glossy Starling, beautiful iridescent blue/green and purple. Californian couple hanging around but didn't talk, weird and creepy. Saw big Crocodile on sandbank of river. More Guineafowl. Sabie and Sand rivers low but very wide and quite a bit of water.       ... out of Kruger has ever returned. The reasons given were that it is too far away and too expensive. Our Joburg guide had said that anyplace that is too far to walk is considered far away. Very few people own private cars. The park entry for local people is about $20 per vehicle.       ... we suddenly felt like we were in Africa with the light, the views, the homesteads, the cattle and chickens all around, and lots of lovely local fruit and vegetables being sold at the roadside. In season now...oranges, pineapple, Paw Paw, avocado, sweet potato, butternut, spinach, bananas, all very cheap if you're coming from overseas.       ... that looks out over the golf course and forest area. There is a fence around the property with a 24 hour guard gate. We sat out by the pool for awhile after unpacking. The pool was too cool to swim. Tonight we had dinner at the lodge. Tried a new fish, Kingklip. It was excellent. A good beginning to our first day in South Africa.
