I'm settling in here at Xiamen University. I'm slowly becoming accustomed to the busy streets, masses of people, packed buses, new foods, different customs, higher buildings, shorter tables, hotter days, foreign language and bolder life. With each day that I'm here, I feel more at home, and some mornings home seems but a far off childhood dream that never was reality. With each 25 minute walk to class and back again, ...

We had a couple of good air quality days and the next time I can see the mountains clearly I'm going to go hiking again. There were a number of classrooms which are distinguished only by a small platform at the front where the teacher would sit in front of their students. Built right next door was a Confucius school of learning and we got lucky enough to see a group of primary school children reciting poetry on ...

... We’re taking a day trip to Xiamen tomorrow because classes are cancelled for a Sports Activity Day. I have no doubt that if I attended I’d be asked to play basketball and I really have no desire to show my students how bad I am at the game. I was asked to perform my Question Master role again for a second elimination round for the finalist in the English Public Speaking contest again. This time was a bit more interesting because in addition to their ...
