07/01/2009 We woke up well before the train was stopping at Hue and moved down to sit on the bottom bunks with our Swedish cabin buddies. They were on a tour with a much larger group and their tour guide helpfully told us what time we'd all be getting in to Hue. Our Swedish friends supped coffee and played cards as we watched the lovely Vietnamese countryside go by through the window. As we arrived in Hue it was absolutely bucketing down, so after stopping to put our raincoats on we made our ...
Hue, Vietnam chrisharrisonQuick stop off in Hue for a couple of days, one day rest and one day on the 'War Tour'. We were stopping on the edge of the old De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) so there were lots of old US air bases nearby and the famous Vin Moch tunnels where the village people lived whilst the war was going on.The day was really interesting but at the same time quite sad, here are the pics...
Hue, Thừa Thiên-Huế, Vietnam clade
Hue was hot. With only a day to spend there we managed to swerve all the tours and instead walked ourselves along the rather hopefully named Perfume River to see the feature that dominates this ex-capital city: the walled Citadel and its forbidden city inside. The Citadel is impressive - a moat surrounds the walls which contain a decent chunk of the city inside them and an enormous Vietnamese flag flies above the southern entrance. Inside is a further, smaller, walled and moated encl...
We have already blogged about Hue on the previous entry so have just included the pics of the highlights of Hue: three Emperors tombs, the old Citadel and the boat ride on the perfume river from the Seven Pillar Thien Mu Pagoda
Next stop Dong Hoi to be updated tomorrow.
After a short flight from Hanoi, we arrived in the ancient city of Hue, the former imperial capital of Vietnam and site of many historical sites. We were a bit concerned when the driver took us to a narrow alley and pointed down towards the hotel, one recommended by our hotel operator in Hanoi. However, we soon discovered that we had landed in a little oasis--complete with fresh roses in our room and another group of exceptionally friendly staff. The boys rate this as the best place we have s...
Hue, Vietnam rbmomBarnaby travelled on the overnight train from Hanoi to Hue. Mr Melling hired a motorbike and, with all three on the bike, they explored the City. Barnaby was very pleased to see that he had over 500 'hits' to his site and that people are still thinking of him.

... 8217;t have been as appreciated, even though it was hot. At the top, where we were, were 3 buildings, one used for accommodation for the 8 or so staff that they had on hand, one for us, and the other building was the chow hall/general meeting area. We ordered up a huge feast of fried rice, chicken, and squid and all grabbed a shower and got back to eat and watch the sunset from the dinner table. We had all become pretty close from the hike up and I liked the vibe and chemistry that we ...
Hue, Vietnam tex25... and Saori. We all sampled some local cuisine - a doughy bun filled with vegetables and a little bit of meat, sold from a man with a mobile cart that projects a recording of the name of the snack (called bun something...). After the free beer ran out, I headed to a local bar with the Australians and a couple of other people that they had met on their Halong Bay trip. We played pool and watched football (soccer to us) and chatted about our respective countries ( a common conversation). One of ...

Hue, Vietnam daond22... I was till 20 mins early for the train. So no drama.

The train trip goes along the coast. The South China sea is a great shade of blue, the sand is white and the jungle goes all the way down to the sand. Quite beautiful well worth it.

Though I should have bought the ticket from the station face value 47,000 for soft seat air con and it cost 144,000 for the Hotel. Though the station is in Da Nang and the hotel is in Hoi An.
Hue, Vietnam conrad.bear... in big grounds and the day was one of the hottest. All of us were sweating and didnt bother to climb the last set of steps in the final temple but it looked cool enough from the outside. We broke for lunch before heading to the citadel. Only Nat, Gayle and I made it inside while the other 3 sat under a tree and waited for us. To be honest they had the right idea. It was still so hot and the Citadel was not that impressive and most of it ...
