... Slovakia, and Italy.
Slept most of the way, one of the advantages of a USO bus, but what we saw of the drive was beautiful. The Lake has a series of ferries to all of the little towns around and to both islands in the middle. We picked up a ferry to Herrenislan (man island) from Prein. Didn't have much time to see the town. There was a steam train that brought people in and a few restraunts around the pier.

Saturday was pretty overcast and not looking good for our planned hike up into the mountains. But apparently it was sunny up top above the cloud line so we decided to go as we wouldn't get another opportunity.
Drove out into the Alps and started at a point about 900m above sea level.
Hiked to the top of Wendelstein mountain which is 1838m above sea level. Weather was beautiful on ...

At 12:00 the Heldenorgel or Heroes' Organ pipes up and swells the courtyard below with its tunes.
I didn't see much to recommend more than a day's visit but we were glad to have stopped off here.
We wandered along the river back to the van to head off to Munich.
Overnight rain had made little impact on the trails. Out here, they don't degenerate rapidly into mush like back home. Keith and I rode up behind the farm and up into the hills. The climbs were long and hard but rewarded by sweet woodland singletrack descents of varying levels of difficulty, peppered with rooty and rocky sections, steep and technical. Really big roots! I couldn't ...
Ellmau, Austrian Alps, Austria mike.griffin... but it's steep and challenging in parts and has added challenges from the wandering cows. Further down it lapses into fire road then tarmac, and winds along the valley's Radwanderweg back to the lift station.
I did this three times then broke for lunch at a restaurant near the lift station where I had a rather salty burger. It was a poor choice as it was a bit too heavy for a ...
... views. We made it down to dinner just in time for the last servings, and celebrated by buying some local red wine recommended by the tour guides en route. Staff seemed very friendly too!
It was a bit dark to go out exploring so we took in the atmosphere from the balcony, drank our wine which they let us take upstairs and considered our plans for the next few days, the peace of the mountains slightly spoiled by the disco music from the triathlon!
hi Well it was a suprise in store when we wheeled the bike into Heinz's workshop, about 1500 Square meters of workshop and storage over 3 levels, I'm a bit green with envy. So our little problem was not a problem, we went to a local BMW dealer I got the parts needed (new seal kit and piston) only 50 euros, then it was back to the workshop where we pulled the bike apart. The problem is that the bike has stood for a few ...
Rosenheim, Bavaria, Germany 2bikers... back to our lodgings across the road from George and Anna's farm, dropped our stuff, and walked across the road to tea. A look at the cows which are actually housed inside for five months of the year. The cow barn is actually the ground floor of the family house. The first floor is occupied by George and Anna, and the top floor which used to be the guest quarters are now lived in by George junior and Anna Lisa. Had a nice meal, made decent conversation thanks to Andrea ...
Lenggries, Bavaria, Germany gregd999... the displays got were pushing a button to watch something happen. A lot of these were broken anyways, so... I paid 2.50 as a student to get in. Had I paid the adult price of 6 to get in, I would have been fuming. About the only area that was ok was the astronomy section and bits of that were quite dry as well. None-the-less, I still spent 5 hours there wading through stuff. NOt the type of place to take a kid. they'd ...
Munich, Germany freyja580... played a lot of old Austrian folk songs, some Strauss waltzes, some light classical music and, to top it off, the Stars and Stripes Forever. I had chills running down my spine. Another perfect end to another perfect day.
August 28-Wednesday KitzbuhelWe woke up to rain again this morning and took a walk around town to do a little shopping (we discovered that rain in the morning is fairly common and doesn’t stop the locals from going about ...
