... hotel. It was a lovely hotel, almost brand new. Sadly, this seems to be the only way that China does nice hotels (ie. if they're new!). The town of Muyi was very smart and very new itself. In the evening we went for a walk by the river and in the town and it was lovely. Because people mainly live in apartments without outside space it 'forces' them out onto the street in the evening. Another very uneventful drive day today, on the road at 7.30am driving along a very very bumpy road at low speeds for most of the day, mostly following lushly forested valleys as we continue south along the south-eastern most edge of the Tibetan plateau.

We stopped in a roadside village for lunch at about 2pm for a large plate of fried rice, accompanied by chilli flakes ...

We had an 8 hr bus ride from Lijiang to Panzhihua, random fact - it is apparently the youngest city in china, it was a interesting ride, lots of really nice views for the most part and then through a real industrial area where we shared the road with hundreds of trucks filled with coal, and along the road side everything was covered with black dust (people included). It was also on this journey that we had our most horrible toilet experience ...
