Stinky Fish

... Local people usually serve the dishes when Mother-in-Law's visit their married daughters. Our driver/tour guide found this local restaurant around the entrance area of Huangshan national park. The fish tastes so good (even with some stinky smell) that we even got the chance to take the picture.

Lush Mountain Panoramas of Qiyun Shan

... to walk the ring path around the summit during which I met a happy family who were just coming down from visiting So and So’s Fort. Thankfully they informed me that it wasn’t worth the steps it took to get there and we then slowly made our way to the next signpost. The father was an English Teacher and I found out that they were from a town far away, but they called it ...

Another one bites the dust

... in the province for half a year, I didn't make it down to Tunxi's lovely surroundings until now. It is exactly as it looks on the postcards. I love these little water towns in China. Jiangsu and Zhejiang are full of them but Anhui's are...cosier.

Amazing Huang Shan and the killer workout

... bus journey that wouldn't leave before we had eight people; arrived back to no hot water so we went straight back out to find a foot massage. We found a small shop where James and I sat in a row of armchairs and had our feet soaked in hot water with some sort of tea bags in wooden buckets. After about 15 minutes the two male massuers let rip on our calves with some Chinese leg and foot massage. It was quite a painful experience but i'm sure there will be some light relief tomorrow, maybe?

Huang Shan

... in Huang Shan city, we were told that we had the day to ourselves and spent the next 12 hours trying to communicate with each other in a mishmash of English, Chinese and various other native tongues among us while attempting to fend off over-enthusiastic glove/hat/scarf/tea/map sellers. After a good sleep we knew nothing except that we were to be at breakfast 6.40am sharp ...

He was a university professor and sent to the countryside to be "re-educated", learn the peasant life and study Mao's quotations. Once he became sick and Mimi had to go out there to help him recover. She was only 12 at the time and had to take care of her sick farther. After he recovered, she went back to Shanghai. Later ...
