I prefered my other one!

... very good at it mind you. So at the end of this they have a dvd of the wedding that lasts about 3 hours and i don't know it's kind of nice but it was plenty of time to sit there trying to figure out what was going on. They really didn't understand any english but kept filling up the red wine glass so i was happy enough...by this time i was perking up a bit anyway. The weddings truly are something to behold...put ours to shame..but i imagine the bills must run into the 1000's and 1000's ...

A lost world slowly coming to the fore

... order to how the deities/statues were displayed on each floor (eg 4th floor dedicated to teachers, interpreters & translators) and the views from the higher floors gave a better perspective on the whole monastery. Afterwards, I took a brilliant walk thro' old Tibetan streets in the north-west of Gyantse (since much of the rest includes Chinese-built buildings and homes). Very Tibetan, these very quiet roads all had cow(s) tethered outside the front door ...

Happy Xmas Beers & Noodles 2008 Mate

... 6th is often the day for giving gifts. In some places it is traditional to give Christmas gifts for each of the Twelve Days of Christmas. Since Eastern Orthodox traditions use a different religious calendar, they celebrate Christmas on January 7th and observe Epiphany or Theophany on January 19th. By the 16th century, some European and Scandinavian cultures had combined the Twelve Days of Christmas with ...

... running up the hill. In addition to the kiln itself, I thought that the walls built with clay pots surrounding the kiln were pretty impressive. We spent the afternoon in a different area of town looking at teapots. Almost every shop was full of them. Some were originals, but most of what I could afford were probably slip cast from an original. I ended up with a second teapot on Thursday. We finished out the day with a trip ...

Strangely when my fried rice finally came it had transferred itself into a large plate of green vegetables with garlic and a bowl of steamed rice. I have no idea what happened as we discussed the fried rice ...

... and our tour leader Baidi suggested going to a massage place - what a brilliant idea. So all the girls went and we had a hot shower then a full body scrub then some food then a massage. It was great but we got into the massage room and was wondering what the railings with some cloth tied to it were on the ceiling, then Simone thought it might be for the massage girls to hold on too when the walked on ...

Lanzhou

... scenes of Lanzhou. Most that were not a pretty sight!, this city was economically very poor, heavily industralised and one of the most polluted I'd experienced in all my years of travel in China. The rivers were black and disgusting, the sky filled with ' yellow sandstorms' common to this area! Counting down the days before I left only filled me with glee!

Along the Silt Route-that's NOT a spelling mistake

... turned out, we would have found that there was a bus from the main bus station, and we would have found a hotel, but not as good and convenient, but probably cheaper. Depending on the result of the Uighur food, we had emerged from a potentially embarrassing situation pretty well. The hotel was the first in China with no obvious rough edges, probably 4 stars by anyone's scale. However the basin plumbing did leak, and the bath diverter needed the strength of ten ...
