    Travel Blogs from Donggang

I'm struggling to articulate my thoughts on North Korea and rather than write a feeble minded review I thought I'd leave a placeholder here The only reason I bother is so that the blogs make chronological sense. I'll edit this into a proper blog at some time. In the meantime read our next blog about the great ...

Coming back to you so I can finish telling you about last weekend. I've already told you about Dandong, but we also visited Dalu Island which is located southwest of the China/North Korea in the Yellow Sea (East China Sea). We were these for less than 24 hours but it still made quite the impact.

In order to reach the island, we had to take about a half hour boat ride from the mainland. It was an interesting experience because the boat itself was not exactly ...

Hello from Dandong, China! This entry is being written in Dandong, but by the time you read it I will mostly likely be back in Changchun since the internet is sketchy and I don't always have access to a computer and an ethernet cable. Luckily my roommate, Chantell, is super awesome and is letting me use her iPad to at least record my thoughts while on this trip.

We left Changchun at 6am this morning and embarked ...

... As I arrived I was immediately approached by a man offering to take me on a boat trip down the river. After some haggling, we agreed on a price and I was handed off to another man. Once I got in the car, the second man offered me a package to see every other tourest destination in Dandong and, after haggling on price, we agreed and set off. To be sure, it was pretty sketchy, so as we went to each place, I kept my backpack close and whenever ...

    The Great Wall at last

The most wondrous part of visiting the wall at Dandong was the sheer lack of tourists. There were never more than twenty people along the entire stretch of the wall at a time. There were pockets of time when My student's grandmother and I were the only people in sight.

This stretch of walls is definetly not for the infirm. Whoevere built it really had no sense of ...
