    Friday 11 Sep 15 – Xiamen

Arrived in Xiamen (~Zowmin) right on time at 7am to a rather smoggy morning – but fine. Had to get moving early as we had to be ready to leave the ship for our tour of Xiamen at 7am, so breakfast was at 6am and a 5:30am wakeup. The port is about 2 hours up a river estuary and this is done at slow speed, particularly given the size of the ship.

... that that remind me why travelling is so great. After a pretty bad morning, I needed that reinforcement. What if I had got on the ferry earlier, without all the stress of buying a ticket? I would have missed the dolphins. Totally worth it. Sometimes things go wrong but you get something great out of it. It took us a long time to realize this, and so it has taken us all three days to get home without getting lost. Luckily, toilets are everywhere, and so getting lost isn't a problem. Locals have set up 'restaurants' in their little courtyards, and so there is always somewhere to eat. Seafood is the speciality here, and so that's what we have eaten. Oyster omelets, ...

... s big Buddah and lots of other ones on the side, I would tell you who they were but the tour leader had good but broken English which made it hard for getting the correct pronunciation!! We meandered our way through other Temples gradually climbing lots of stairs along the way. The last area to go was to s huge big rock with something to do with Buddah written on it, there was more climbing to do to get up to the top but that was as far as our tour leader went. ...

Had a lazy day today staying around the Hotel Indigo. We walked down Zhongshan Lu and had lunch at Aijsen Ramen, one of our favourite Japanese restaurant chains. We then wandered back to the hotel and had afternoon tea sitting up in the restaurant area overlooking the harbour and Gulangyu Island, unfortunately not warm or nice enough to sit outside.
